List Of Critically Endangered Amphibians
As of December 2021, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists 673 critically endangered amphibian species, including 146 which are tagged as ''possibly extinct''. 9.2% of all evaluated amphibian species are listed as critically endangered. No subpopulations of amphibians have been evaluated by the IUCN. Additionally, 1193 amphibian species (16.4% of those evaluated) are listed as ''data deficient'', meaning there is insufficient information for a full assessment of conservation status. As these species typically have small distributions and/or populations, they are intrinsically likely to be threatened, according to the IUCN. While the category of ''data deficient'' indicates that no assessment of extinction risk has been made for the taxa, the IUCN notes that it may be appropriate to give them "the same degree of attention as threatened taxa, at least until their status can be assessed." It is endemic to Honduras and is known from the summit of Cerro El Zarciadero (its type locality) and the southwestern side of the nearby Cerro Azul Meámbar National Park, in the northern Comayagua Department. Description The type series consists of two adult females measuring in snout–vent length (SVL) and in total length. A subadult female measured SVL. The snout is truncate in dorsal aspect and rounded in profile. The tail is strongly constricted basally. The limbs are relatively slender and long; the digits are moderately webbed. The upper parts are grayish brown or brownish olive with small, inconspicuous, irregularly shaped buff-yellow spots. ''Bolitoglossa nussbaumi'' is a lungless salamander in the family Plethodontidae endemic to Guatemala. Taxonomy ''Bolitoglossa nussbaumi'' was described in 2010. Its specific epithet honors herpetologist Ronald A. Nussbaum. Description ''Bolitoglossa nussbaumi'' averages around 50mm in length. Its dark brown in coloration, and some individuals have darker brown stripes. Its toes are more distinct and less webbed than other members of its genus, distinguishing it from them.
