This list of churches in Rogaland is a list of the Church of Norway churches in the Diocese of Stavanger in Norway. It includes all of the parishes in Rogaland county. The diocese is based at the Stavanger Cathedral in the city of Stavanger (city), Stavanger in Stavanger Municipality. The list is divided into several sections, one for each deanery (; headed by a Provost (religion), provost) in the diocese. Administratively within each deanery, the churches within each municipality elects their own church council (). Each municipality may have one or more parishes () within the municipality. Each parish elects their own councils (). Each parish has one or more Parish church, local church. The municipality of Stavanger is a special case since it has a large population and a large area. Diocese Of Stavanger
The Diocese of Stavanger () is a diocese in the Church of Norway. It covers all of Rogaland county in western Norway. The cathedral city is Stavanger, where the Stavanger Cathedral is located. The bishop is Anne Lise Ådnøy, who has held the post since 2019. History The ancient Diocese of Stavanger was established in the 12th century (either 1112 or maybe 1125) when it was separated from the Ancient Diocese of Bergen. Initially, the large diocese covered the (modern) counties of Rogaland, Aust-Agder, and Vest-Agder as well as the regions of Valdres (in Oppland county), Hallingdal (in Buskerud county), and the parishes of Eidfjord and Røldal (in Hordaland county). After the Protestant Reformation, the Diocese of Stavanger continued in the new Church of Norway. Over time, the diocese was reduced in size. Stokka Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Stavanger Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the Stokka neighborhood in the Eiganes og Våland borough in the city of Stavanger. It is the church for the Stokka parish which is part of the Stavanger domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. Frue Church
Frue Church or Hetland Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Stavanger Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the borough of Storhaug in the centre of the city of Stavanger. It is one of the two churches for the St. Johannes parish which is part of the Stavanger domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, wooden church was built in the long church style in 1854 using designs by the architect Hans Hansen Kaas. The church seats about 700 people. The church was originally built as the main church for the old municipality of Hetland and it was known as ''Hetland Church'', but after it was merged into the city of Stavanger, the church has been officially known as Frue Church, however the old name is still in use. Hundvåg (island)
Hundvåg is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island is located in the borough of Hundvåg, just north of the centre of the city of Stavanger, separated by the Byfjorden. The island is relatively flat and very urbanized. There were 9803 residents of the island in 2014. There are some agricultural areas as well as a lot of industry. The small island of Buøy is connected to the south side of Hundvåg by a small man-made isthmus. Hundvåg Church is located on the island. Transportation Hundvåg is connected to the mainland by a series of bridges connecting the islands of Buøy to Engøy to Sølyst to Grasholmen and then over the Stavanger City Bridge to the mainland of the city.
