List Of Caves In Bulgaria
The list caves in Bulgaria, as of 2002, includes around 4,500 underground formations. The earliest written records about the caves in Bulgaria are found in the manuscripts of the 17th century Bulgarian National Revival figure and historian Petar Bogdan. The first Bulgarian speleological society was established in 1929. The caves in the country are inhabited by more than 700 invertebrate species, many of them endemism, endemic, and 32 of the 37 species of bats found in Europe. The longest caves in Bulgaria are Kolkina Dupka (19,164 m), Duhlata (18,200 m) and Orlova Chuka (13,437 m). The first show cave is Bacho Kiro cave, Bacho Kiro, inaugurated in 1937. Devetashka Cave
Devetàshka cave () is a large karst cave around east of Letnitsa and northeast of Lovech, near the village of Devetaki on the east bank of the river Osam, in Bulgaria. The site was continuously occupied by paleo-humans for tens of thousands of years, served as a shelter for a variety of animal species during extensive periods and is now home to nearly 30,000 bats. Location Devetashka cave is located approximately from the village of Devetaki. A narrow path by the river leads from the village to the cave. It can also be accessed directly via Road 301 along a long dirt road and a concrete bridge. Now part of a public park, that includes a waterfall, the long karst cave formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks, characterized by sinkholes and an underground river. Rhodope Mountains
The Rhodopes (; , ; , ''Rodopi''; ) are a mountain range in Southeastern Europe, and the largest by area in Bulgaria, with over 83% of its area in the southern part of the country and the remainder in Greece. Golyam Perelik is its highest peak at . The mountain range gives its name to the terrestrial ecoregion Rodope montane mixed forests that belongs in the temperate broadleaf and mixed forests biome and the Palearctic realm. Trigrad Gorge
The Trigrad Gorge (, ) is a canyon of vertical marble rocks in the Rhodope Mountains. It is in Smolyan Province, one of the southernmost provinces of Bulgaria. The gorge encloses the course of the Trigradska River, which plunges into the Devil's Throat Cave and further emerges as a large karst spring. It later flows into the River Buynovska. Lovech
Lovech (, ) is a city in north-central Bulgaria. It is the administrative centre of the Lovech Province and of the subordinate Lovech Municipality. The city is located about northeast from the capital city of Sofia. Near Lovech are the towns of Pleven, Troyan and Teteven. Name The name is possibly derived from the Slavic root ''lov'', "hunting" + the Slavic suffix ''-ech''. Geography Lovech is situated in the Forebalkan area of northern Bulgaria, on both sides of the river Osam, and unifies both mountainous and plain relief.
