List Of Butterflies Of China
The following is a list of all butterflies found in the geographical realm of China divided by families. Temperate North China is located in Central Asia and the Palearctic realm. The rest of China, including the tropical South China (with Hainan, Hong Kong), and Taiwan belong to the Indomalayan realm. In many parts of China the Palearctic and Oriental faunas overlap. This list includes species recorded from Tian Shan, Amur and Ussuri. There are 1,317 species recorded from China. Donovan Phillips Leitch (born 10 May 1946), known mononymously as Donovan, is a Scotland, Scottish musician, songwriter, and record producer. He developed an eclectic and distinctive style that blended Folk music, folk, jazz, Pop music, pop, psychedelic rock and world music (notably calypso music, calypso). He has lived in Scotland, Hertfordshire (England), London, California, and—since at least 2008—in County Cork, Ireland, with his family. Ernest Grandidier
Ernest Grandidier (2 December 1833 – 1 July 1912) was a French industrialist, naturalist and art collector. The Grandidier family was very wealthy and in 1857 Ernest Grandidier, with his brother Alfred (1836-1921) and tutor Jules Janseen, went on a voyage to the Americas. Leaving Paris they travelled to Liverpool, then to North America, travelling in Canada then crossing the United States to New Orleans. After the five months M. Janssen fell ill and returned to France but the two brothers continued their journey going on to South America in 1858 and 1859. They went to Bolivia and Peru, where they explored the mineral mining regions and Inca sites, Chile and the passes between Santiago and Buenos Aires. They returned to France with extensive geological, zoological and botanical collections. Rudolf Mell
Rudolf Emil Mell (1878 in Gera, Thuringia – 1970 in Berlin) was a German zoologist and entomologist who specialised in Lepidoptera especially Sphingidae and the fauna of China. He was the director of the German-Chinese Middle School at Canton (Guangzhou) for some time. His collection of Sphingidae is held by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh. It was purchased by Benjamin Preston Clark. Adalbert Seitz
Friedrich Joseph Adalbert Seitz, (24 February 1860 in Mainz – 5 March 1938 in Darmstadt) was a German physician and entomologist who specialised in Lepidoptera. He was a director of the Frankfurt zoo from 1893 to 1908 and is best known for editing the multivolume reference on the butterflies and larger moths of the world ''Die Gross-Schmetterlinge der Erde'' which continued after his death. Biography Seitz was born in Mainz and went to school in Aschaffenburg, Darmstadt and Bensheim. He studied medicine from 1880 to 1885 and then zoology at Giessen. His doctorate was on the protective devices of animals. He worked as an assistant in the maternity hospital of the University of Giessen and then worked as a ship's doctor from 1887, travelling to Australia, South America and Asia. Sergei Alphéraky
Sergei Nikolaevich Alphéraky (1850–1918) (sometimes Alphéraki or Alferaki) was a Russian ornithologist and entomologist who specialised in Lepidoptera. Sergei Alphéraky was born into the noble Greek family of Alferakis and was the brother of composer Achilles Alferaki. His father Nikos Alferakis owned the Alferaki Palace in Taganrog. Sergei studied at Moscow University (1867–1869), then with Otto Staudinger in Dresden (1871–1873). On his return to Russia he worked on the Lepidoptera of the Taganrog, Rostov-on-Don region. He also collected in the North Caucasus. After that he devoted himself to the insects, especially Lepidoptera, of Central Asia. Paul Mabille (1835 – 6 April 1923) was a French naturalist mainly interested in Lepidoptera and botany. Mabille was born in 1835 in Tours, France. He was a member and President (1876–1877) of the Société entomologique de France and a member of the Société entomologique de Belgique. Gustave Arthur Poujade (1845–1909, Fontainebleau) was a French entomologist interested in Coleoptera and Lepidoptera. He was an honorary preparator in the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris. The museum holds his collections.
