Bat Conservation International
Bat Conservation International (BCI) is an international nongovernmental organization working to conserve bats and their habitats through conservation, education, and research efforts. BCI was founded in 1982 by bat biologist Merlin Tuttle, who led the organization until his retirement in 2009. Since its establishment, BCI has formed partnerships with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and many national and international agencies and nonprofits, and has produced publications, workshops, scholarships, and research, and site-specific projects in the US and internationally. The Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) is a registered British charity dedicated to the conservation of bats and their habitats in the UK. BCT was founded in 1991 and is the only national organisation solely devoted to bats. Its vision is a world where bats and people live in harmony. Bat World Sanctuary
Bat World Sanctuary was founded in 1994 as a non-profit rescue-rehabilitation center and Animal sanctuary, sanctuary operated exclusively for bats. Lubee Bat Conservancy is an Association of Zoos and Aquariums-certified institution in Gainesville, Florida. Its focus is the research and conservation of bats, particularly megabats. History Lubee Bat Conservancy has its roots in an organization founded in 1989, the Lubee Foundation, Inc. The Lubee Foundation was created by Luis F. Bacardi of the Bacardi spirits company. The name "Lubee" was derived from the name of "Luis Bacardi." In the early years of the organization, it was home to several animal species other than bats, such as parrots, monkeys, and ostriches. The Lubee Foundation was used as a temporary holding facility for animals on their way to Disney's Animal Kingdom.
