Glasgow is the Cities of Scotland, most populous city in Scotland, located on the banks of the River Clyde in Strathclyde, west central Scotland. The Bathers (band)
The Bathers are a Scottish chamber pop band. The vehicle for singer-songwriter Chris Thomson, they have released seven albums and have been referred to as ''"the best-kept secret in Scottish music"''. They were initially active between 1985 and 2001 and reformed in 2016. Biography Chris Thomson originally came to attention with the 1980s Glasgow funk/pop/Celtic soul band Friends Again, which also featured future Love and Money members Paul McGeechan, James Grant and Stuart Kerr. When Friends Again split up in 1985, Thomson secured a solo deal with Go! Discs Records, using the project name of "The Bathers" and drawing on a pool of musicians (including Grant) to flesh out his songs. The debut Bathers album was 1987's ''Unusual Places To Die''. Thin Lizzy
Thin Lizzy are an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in 1969. The band initially consisted of bass guitarist, lead vocalist and principal songwriter Phil Lynott, drummer Brian Downey, guitarist Eric Bell and organist Eric Wrixon although Wrixon left after a few months. Bell left at the end of 1973 and was briefly replaced by Gary Moore, who himself was replaced in mid-1974 by twin lead guitarists: Scott Gorham, who remained with the band until their break-up in 1983, and Brian Robertson, who remained with the band until 1978 when Moore re-joined. Moore left a second time and was replaced by Snowy White in 1980, who was himself replaced by John Sykes in 1982. The line-up was augmented by keyboardist Darren Wharton in 1980. The singles " Whiskey in the Jar" (1972), " The Boys Are Back in Town" (1976) and " Waiting for an Alibi" (1979) were international hits, and several Thin Lizzy albums reached the top ten in the UK. Brian Robertson (guitarist)
Brian David Robertson (born 12 February 1956) is a Scottish rock guitarist,Byrne, Alan ''Thin Lizzy, Soldiers of Fortune'', Firefly Publishing, November 2005 pp. 51 & 56 best known as a former member of Thin Lizzy from 1974 to 1978, and Motörhead from 1982 to 1983, replacing Fast Eddie Clarke. Early life Robertson was born in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, Clarkston, Renfrewshire (historic), Renfrewshire (now part of East Renfrewshire), where he was educated, attending Eastwood High School in nearby Newton Mearns, and became a musician. He studied cello and Piano, classical piano for eight years before switching to the guitar and drums. The Bluebells
The Bluebells are a Scottish indie new wave band, active between 1981 and 1986 (later reforming in 1993, 2008–2009, 2011, 2018, 2019 and 2023). Career The Bluebells performed jangly guitar-based pop not dissimilar to their Scottish contemporaries Aztec Camera and Orange Juice. They had three top 40 hits on the UK Singles Chart, all written by guitarist and founder member Bobby Bluebell (real name Robert Hodgens) – " I'm Falling", "Cath", and their biggest success " Young at Heart". The latter was co-written with Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama (originally recorded on the Bananarama album '' Deep Sea Skiving'') and violinist Bobby Valentino, and made it to number 8 on the UK Singles Chart on its original release in 1984. The band also released one EP, '' The Bluebells'', and one full-length album, ''Sisters''. The Blue Nile (band)
The Blue Nile were a Scottish band which originated in Glasgow. The group's early music was built heavily on synthesizers and electronic instrumentation and percussion, although later works featured guitar more prominently. Following early championing by established artists such as Rickie Lee Jones and Peter Gabriel (the band later worked with both acts), the Blue Nile gained critical acclaim, particularly for their first two albums '' A Walk Across the Rooftops'' and ''Hats'', and some commercial success in both the UK and the US, which led to the band working with a wide range of musicians from the late 1980s onwards. The Blue Nile's highest chart placement came when "Tinseltown in the Rain" reached No. 28 in the Netherlands in 1984, their only Dutch charting song. The Blimp
The Blimp were a rock band formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1998. The group comprised William Rogue (vocals, lead guitar, harmonica), Ray Alexander (Hammond organ), George Berry (vocals, drums, percussion), Gary Craig (bass guitar) and JD Allan (vocals, rhythm guitar). The Blimp released two studio albums, one live album and three singles before disbanding in July 2007. Bis ( , stylised in all lowercase) are a Scottish indie pop band composed of Steven Clark (Sci-Fi Steven), John Clark ( John Disco), and Amanda MacKinnon ( Manda Rin), formed in 1994. The band's name, rhyming with 'this', derives from "black iron skyline", a lyric from the song "Twilight of a Champion" by The The. After releasing numerous EPs and three studio albums, '' The New Transistor Heroes'' (1997), ''Social Dancing'' (1999), and '' Return To Central'' (2001), the band broke up in 2003, but re-formed briefly in 2007 for a series of concerts. Belle & Sebastian
Belle and Sebastian are a Scottish indie pop band formed in Glasgow in 1996. Led by Stuart Murdoch, the band has released twelve studio albums. They are often compared with acts such as the Smiths and Nick Drake. The band took their name from the 1965 television series '' Belle and Sebastian''. History Formation, early years and ''Tigermilk'' (1994–1996) In 1994, Stuart Murdoch and Stuart David both enrolled at Stow College's Beatbox programme for unemployed musicians in Glasgow. Together, with music professor Alan Rankine (formerly of the Associates), they recorded some demos, which in 1996 were picked up by the college's Music Business course that produces and releases one single each year on the college's label, Electric Honey. Stone The Crows
Stone the Crows were a Scottish blues rock band formed in Glasgow in late 1969. They are remembered for the onstage electrocution of guitarist and founding member Les Harvey. History The band were formed after Maggie Bell was introduced to Les Harvey by his elder brother Alex Harvey. After playing together in the Kinning Park Ramblers, their next band Power was renamed Stone the Crows (after a British/Australian English exclamation of surprise or shock) by Led Zeppelin's manager, Peter Grant. The band was co-managed by Grant and Mark London. London was associated with Lulu as the co-writer of her signature song, " To Sir With Love" and was also married to Lulu's manager, Marion Massey.
