The Ambassador of Sweden to Canada (known formally as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Canada) is the official representative of the government of Sweden to the governor general and government of Canada. History In August 1943, the Swedish government decided to establish a diplomatic mission in Ottawa and close the Consulate General of Sweden, Montreal. The Swedish consul general in Montreal Per Wijkman was appointed as Swedish first envoy in Canada. On 4 August 1943, Wijkman presented his credentials to Governor-General Alexander Cambridge, 1st Earl of Athlone. In March 1956, an agreement was reached between the Swedish and Canadian governments on the mutual elevation of the respective countries' legations to embassies. The diplomatic rank was thereafter changed to ambassador instead of envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary. Kaj Björk
Kaj Åke Björk (25 December 1918 – 30 September 2014) was a Swedish social democratic politician and a diplomat. Early life Björk was born on 25 December 1918 in Gothenburg, Sweden, the son of Adolf Björk and his wife Eva (née Jancke). He was the youngest of five siblings and his father died barely a year later, and the mother was left to cope with the family's livelihood on her teacher's salary. The family belonged to Gothenburg culture radical circles and Björk became politically active already in high school. He passed ''studentexamen'' in 1936 and studied economics at Stockholm University College, but most of his time was devoted to intense political activity. Ragnvald Richardson (R:son) Bagge (12 November 1903 – 24 March 1991) was a Swedish diplomat. Early life Bagge was born on 12 November 1903 in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, the son of consul general Richard Bagge and his wife Lily (née Schwartz). He received a Candidate of Law degree in 1926 before becoming an attaché at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1928. Per Johan Valentin Anger (7 December 1913 – 25 August 2002) was a Swedish diplomat. Anger was Raoul Wallenberg's co-worker at the Swedish legation in Budapest during World War II when many Jews were saved because they were supplied with Swedish passports.
