Alternative Country
Alternative country (commonly abbreviated to alt-country; also known as alternative country rock, insurgent country, Americana, or y'allternative) is a loosely defined subgenre of country music and/or country rock that includes acts that differ significantly in style from mainstream country music, mainstream country rock, and country pop. Alternative country artists are often influenced by alternative rock. BR549
BR549 (originally spelled BR5-49) was an American country rock band founded in 1993. It originally consisted of Gary Bennett (lead and background vocals, acoustic guitar), Don Herron (steel guitar, resonator guitar, fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar), "Smilin'" Jay McDowell (upright bass), Chuck Mead (lead and background vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar), and "Hawk" Shaw Wilson (drums, background vocals). Bennett and McDowell left the band in 2001, with Chris Scruggs and Geoff Firebaugh, respectively, replacing them. Both Firebaugh and Scruggs later left the band as well; Mark Miller has become the band's third bassist. The name of the band is taken from a mangled phone number from ''Hee Haw'' comedian Junior Samples' car salesman skit. BR549 released six albums and two EPs, including three albums on Arista Nashville and two on Dualtone Records. Divorce (band)
Divorce is a British four-piece alternative country band from Nottingham, consisting of vocalist and bassist Tiger Cohen-Towell, co-vocalist Felix Mackenzie-Barrow, drummer Kasper Sandstrom, and lead guitarist Adam Peter-Smith. First releasing music in 2021, the band has released two EPs, ''Get Mean'' (2022) and ''Heady Metal'' (2023), which they followed up with their debut album, ''Drive To Goldenhammer'' (2025). History All four members of the band met at age 16 through the music scene in Nottingham. Smith was initially a solo artist, whereas Towell and Barrow were a musical duo and Sandstrom was in the Nottingham band Do Nothing, a position he still holds. Tanya Donelly
Tanya Donelly (born July 14, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist based in New England. She came to prominence as a co-founder of the band Throwing Muses with her step-sister Kristin Hersh. Donelly went on to co-form the alternative rock band The Breeders alongside Kim Deal in 1989, before leaving to front her own band Belly in 1991. By the late 1990s, she settled into a solo recording career, working largely with musicians connected to the Boston music scene. Donelly was nominated for Grammy for her in the mid-1990s as lead vocalist and songwriter for Belly, when she scored a national radio and music television hit with her composition " Feed the Tree". The Devil Makes Three is an Americana band from Santa Cruz, California, United States. The group blends americana, folk, bluegrass, old time, country, blues, jazz, punk and ragtime music. The group's current members are guitarist Pete Bernhard, upright bassist MorganEve Swain, and guitarist and tenor banjo player Cooper McBean. The band has released seven full-length studio albums and three live recordings. Career 2002-2009 Bernhard and McBean are originally from near Brattleboro, Vermont, where they played music together as childhood friends and when they were in high school. They were also acquainted with Lucia Turino (who was the band's original bassist and vocalist). Turino was from New Hampshire but raised in Vermont, but Bernhard and McBean didn't know her well. Jesse Dayton is an American musician, actor and record producer from Austin, Texas best known for his guitar contributions to albums by country musicians including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. He is also notable for his collaborations with horror film director Rob Zombie, who has commissioned Dayton on multiple occasions to record music to accompany his films. Cross Canadian Ragweed is an American country and rock band formed in Yukon, Oklahoma in 1994. The original members of the band is how the name was formed. Cross- Grady Cross, Canadian- Cody Canada, Rag- Randy Ragsdale, Weed- Matt Wiedemann. The band consists of Cody Canada (lead guitar/vocals), Grady Cross (guitar), Randy Ragsdale (drums), and Jeremy Plato (bass guitar). Rosanne Cash (born May 24, 1955) is an American singer-songwriter and author. She is the eldest daughter of country musician Johnny Cash and his first wife, Vivian Cash. Although Cash is often classified as a country artist, her music draws from many genres, including folk, pop, rock, blues, and in particular, Americana.
