DELAG
DELAG, acronym for ''Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-Aktiengesellschaft'' (German for "German Airship Travel Corporation"), was the world's first airline to use an aircraft in revenue service. It operated a fleet of zeppelin rigid airships manufactured by the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin Corporation. Its headquarters were located in Frankfurt, Germany. DELAG was founded on 16 November 1909 as a commercial passenger-carrying offshoot of Zeppelin Luftschiffbau. While the notion did not have the support of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, the inventor of the zeppelin, Alfred Colsman, the business manager of Zeppelin Luftschiffbau, gained both funding and promotion for passenger flights from Albert Ballin, the head of the Hamburg America Line. The International Air Transport Association (IATA ) is an airline trade association founded in 1945. IATA has been described as a cartel since, in addition to setting technical standards for airlines, IATA also organized tariff conferences that served as a forum for price fixing. According to IATA, the trade association represents 317 airlines, including major carriers, from over 120 countries. The IATA's member airlines account for carrying approximately 82% (2020) of total available seat miles air traffic. IATA supports airline activity and helps formulate industry policy and standards. It is headquartered in Montreal, Canada, with executive offices in Geneva, Switzerland. History IATA was formed in April 1945 in Havana, Cuba. SNETA
The National Syndicate for the Study of Aerial Transport (), known by its acronym SNETA, was an early airline which operated from 1919 to 1923 in order to pioneer commercial aviation in Belgium. In 1923 it ceased operations and merged into the newly founded national carrier SABENA. History The company was founded on 31 March 1919 by Georges Nélis with the support of King Albert I. It operated from the airfield at Haren, near Brussels, and flew to London (Hounslow Heath Aerodrome and Croydon Airport), Paris (Paris–Le Bourget Airport) and Amsterdam (Amsterdam Airport Schiphol). Amongst the pilots of SNETA was Ivan Smirnov. Its initial fleet was made up of surplus airplanes from the First World War. The company used a mix of British, French and German planes. Air Union was a French airline established on 1 January 1923, as the result of a merger between the airlines '' Compagnie des Messageries Aériennes'' and '' Compagnie des Grands Express Aériens''. Air Union was merged with four other French airlines to become Air France on 7 October 1933. ''Compagnie des messageries aériennes'' was a pioneering France, French airline which was in operation from 1919–23, when it was merged with Grands Express Aériens to form Air Union. The Compagnie des ''Grands Express Aériens'' was a pioneering French airline established 20 March 1919 and operating until merged with Compagnie des Messageries Aériennes to form Air Union on 1 January 1923. Headquartered at 3, Rue d'Anjou, Paris, ''CGEA'' operated passenger flights from Le Bourget Paris to London's Croydon Aerodrome and also to Lausanne, eventually adding Geneva service in late October 1921. They flew Farman F.60 ''Goliath'' aircraft, a design converted from an earlier bomber into a luxury cabin aircraft. The Société Générale des Transports Aériens (SGTA) was a French airline founded in 1919. It operated until 1933 when its assets were incorporated in the newly created Air France airline. History Initially known as the ''Lignes Aériennes Farman'' (Farman airlines), the SGTA was created on February 8, 1919, when a Farman F.60 Goliath flew from Toussus-le-Noble to Kenley, near Croydon. Svensk Luftrafik (''SLA, SLAB, Svenska Lufttrafikbolaget'') was a Swedish airline based in Stockholm. The company was founded on 7 February 1919, its first flight running on the 7 August 1920. Flight operations of the company were terminated in 1921. SLAB operated air-mail services in co-operation with Deutsche Luft-Reederei, a Lufthansa precursor, and operated a regular passenger service Copenhagen–Malmö–Warnemünde. In 1921 the company built the Lindarängen seaplane airport (''Lindarängens flyghamn'') in Stockholm and started regular services to Reval, (later known as Tallinn, capital of Estonia) with a Junkers F.13 and two Savoia S-16 flying boats. Aéropostale (formally, ''Compagnie générale aéropostale'') was a pioneering aviation company which operated from 1918 to 1933. It was founded in 1918 in Toulouse, France, as ''Société des lignes Latécoère'', also known as ''Lignes aériennes Latécoère'' or simply "The Line" (''La ligne''). History Aéropostale founder Pierre-Georges Latécoère envisioned an air route connecting France to the French colonies in Africa and South America. The company's activities were to specialise in, but were by no means restricted to, airborne postal services.
