The Galați shipyard (), formally Damen Shipyards Galați, is a shipyard located on the maritime sector of the Danube in Galați, a city located in the Moldavia region of Romania. Van der Giessen de Noord () was a shipyard, shipbuilding company that mainly built ferry, ferries, located in Krimpen aan den IJssel, a town in the western Netherlands. The yard was especially suited to the construction of large Ship, vessels due to its developed undercover facilities. The shipyard was founded in 1820. After World War II, the company expanded significantly in the building of larger ships. HNLMS ''Karel Doorman'' () is a Joint support ship, multi-function support ship for amphibious operations of the Royal Netherlands Navy, which is also used by the German Navy. The ship replaced both of the navy's replenishment oilers: (scrapped in February 2014) and (sold to Peru in December 2014). At she is the largest ship in service with the Royal Netherlands Navy. She was built at the Damen Group, Damen yard in Galați, Romania, being the largest warship ever built in Romania. On 16 August 2013 the ship arrived in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, where final outfitting and installation of the weapon systems took place.
