The ''Zatch Bell!'' manga was written and illustrated by Makoto Raiku. Formally titled , the story focuses on the title character Zatch Bell, who is one of a hundred Mamodo participating in an elimination tournament on Earth for the crown of the Mamodo world. The series chronicles Zatch's strengthening bond with his human partner, Kiyo Takamine, and his struggles through the tournament, culminating with his eventual win and subsequent departure from Earth. The series ran for 323 chapters in Shogakukan's ''shōnen'' manga magazine ''Weekly Shōnen Sunday'' from January 10, 2001, to December 26, 2007. The chapters were collected in thirty-three ''tankōbon'' volumes released from May 8, 2001, to June 18, 2008. Chuang Yi Publishing Pte Ltd. ( zh, s=创艺出版社) was a publishing company based in Singapore that specialized in producing domestic and imported comics and comics-related merchandise in English and simplified Chinese. Chuang Yi distributed all or some of its products in Singapore, India, Malaysia and the Philippines. Distribution to Australia and New Zealand occurred through Madman Entertainment and used Australian English translations. The company is now defunct after ceasing operations in late 2013 and going into liquidation in the following months. Animal Land
is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Makoto Raiku. The series follows a human baby abandoned by his mother who ends up in a world inhabited solely by animals and is raised by a tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog). It was originally serialized in Kodansha's ''Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine'' from October 2009 to February 2014. Later, it was compiled into fourteen collected ''tankōbon'' volumes by Kodansha in Japan. These volumes were licensed in North America by Kodansha USA and published from August 2011 to October 2018. Raiku chose the animal world as the main theme of the series because he wanted a topic that had never been attempted before in a ''shōnen'' manga. The animals are used as a metaphor to explore human themes, and because of the subjects it deals with it has been described as "darker" than it apparently was.
