This World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) list includes prior and scheduled Worldcons. The information is maintained by the ''Long List Committee'', a World Science Fiction Society sub-committee. Notes: * Name – a convention is normally listed by the least confusing version of its name. This is usually the name preferred by the convention, but fannish tradition is followed in retroactively numbering the first Worldcon in a series 1 (or I or One). * Guests of honor – custom in designating guests of honor has varied greatly, with some conventions giving specific titles (Fan, Pro, Australia, US, Artist, etc.) and some simply calling them all guests of honor. Worldcon
Worldcon, officially the World Science Fiction Convention, the annual convention of the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS), is a science fiction convention. It has been held each year since 1939 (except for the years 1942 to 1945, during World War II). The members of each Worldcon are the members of WSFS, and vote both to select the site of the Worldcon two years later, and to select the winners of the annual Hugo Awards, which are presented at each convention. The 8th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), also known as NorWesCon, was held on 1–4 September 1950 at the Multnomah Hotel in Portland, Oregon, United States. John Carnell
Edward John Carnell (8 April 1912 – 23 March 1972) was a British science fiction editor known for editing '' New Worlds'' in 1946 then from 1949 to 1963. He also edited ''Science Fantasy'' from the 1950s. After the magazines were sold to another publisher he left to launch the '' New Writings in SF'' anthology series, editing 21 issues until his death, after which the series was continued by Kenneth Bulmer for a further 9 issues. Taken together his publications played a role in starting the careers of Damien Broderick, Brian W. Aldiss, James White, J. G. Ballard, and his successor at ''New Worlds'', Michael Moorcock. Despite that list, Carnell tended to prefer adventure and Hard SF to New Wave experimentation so John Christopher, Kenneth Bulmer, and E. C. Tubb were more typical of his tenure. The 7th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), also known as Cinvention, was held on 3–5 September 1949 at the Hotel Metropole in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. Wilson Tucker (writer)
Arthur Wilson "Bob" Tucker (November 23, 1914 – October 6, 2006) was an American author who became well known as a writer of mystery, action adventure, and science fiction under the name Wilson Tucker. Tucker was also a prominent member of science fiction fandom, who wrote extensively for science fiction fanzine, fanzines under the name Bob Tucker, a family nickname bestowed in childhood (his own mispronunciation of the nickname "Bub"). He became a prominent literary criticism, analyst and critic of the field, as well as the coiner of such terms as "space opera". Life Born in Deer Creek, Illinois, for most of his life Tucker made his home in Bloomington, Illinois. He was married twice. Robert Bloch
Robert Albert Bloch (; April 5, 1917September 23, 1994) was an American fiction writer, primarily of crime fiction, crime, psychological horror fiction, horror and Fantasy Fiction, fantasy, much of which has been dramatized for radio, cinema and television. He also wrote a relatively small amount of science fiction. His writing career lasted 60 years, including more than 30 years in television and film. He began his professional writing career immediately after graduation from high school, aged 17. Best known as the writer of ''Psycho (novel), Psycho'' (1959), the basis for the Psycho (1960 film), film of the same name by Alfred Hitchcock, Bloch wrote hundreds of short stories and over 30 novels.
