The following is a list of drafts held by Women's Professional Soccer, with a brief description of each. Preseason 200809 (inaugural) *2008 WPS Player Allocation: All twenty-one players in the USWNT player pool told the league which of the seven initial teams they would like to play for, with the teams likewise telling the league which players they wanted. WPS announced which players would go to which teams on September 16. *2008 WPS International Draft: With pick order based on the strength of the USWNT allocation, teams chose which foreign players they wanted negotiating rights for on September 24. Women's Professional Soccer
Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) was the top-level professional women's soccer league in the United States. It began play on March 29, 2009. The league was composed of seven teams for its first two seasons and fielded six teams for the 2011 season, with continued plans for future expansion. The WPS was the highest level in the United States soccer pyramid for the women's game. On January 30, 2012, the league announced suspension of the 2012 season, citing several internal organization struggles as the primary cause. Some of these issues included an ongoing legal battle with magicJack owner Dan Borislow and the lack of resources invested into the league. On May 18, 2012, WPS announced the league folded and would not return in 2013. 2010 WPS Dispersal Draft
The 2010 WPS Dispersal Draft was a special draft for Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) after the Los Angeles Sol withdrew from the league. Players from the team were dispersed to the remaining seven teams in the league via the draft. Background When the Los Angeles Sol folded on January 28, 2010 after a potential sale of the team fell through at the last minute, WPS, which had been running the team after AEG backed out, announced that the nineteen players under contract to the Sol would be dispersed to the remaining WPS teams in a dispersal draft, held on Thursday, February 4, 2010. Western New York Flash
The Western New York Flash (WNY Flash) was an American soccer club based in Elma, New York that competed in the United Women's Soccer league. They have won league championships in four different leagues: the USL W-League in 2010, Women's Professional Soccer in 2011, Women's Premier Soccer League Elite in 2012, and the National Women's Soccer League in 2016. The team was founded in 2008 as the Buffalo Flash and played in the USL W-League from 2008 to 2010. In 2011, the team became the Western New York Flash and joined Women's Professional Soccer (WPS), its only season in the league. 2010 WPS Expansion Draft
The 2010 WPS Expansion Draft was a special draft for the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) expansion team Western New York Flash that took place on November 20, 2010. The Flash had the opportunity to make nine player selections from the existing seven WPS teams. Format * Existing teams may protect up to 10 players, but must leave a minimum of 3 unprotected. (Free agents are not included in either category.) * Expansion team must each select one player from each existing team prior to selecting a second player from an existing team. * Existing team may protect one additional player after losing their first player. * Existing team may protect all players after losing their second player. * An existing team may not lose more than two players. * Expansion team may select a total of nine players. The Los Angeles Sol was an American professional soccer club that was based in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson, California that participated in Women's Professional Soccer. The team was co-owned and operated by Blue Star, LLC and AEG, a subsidiary of the Anschutz Entertainment Group. The Sol had played its home games at The Home Depot Center.
