Women's National Basketball Association
The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) is a women's professional basketball league in the United States. The league comprises 13 teams (scheduled to expand to 15 in 2026). The WNBA is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. The WNBA was founded on April 24, 1996, as the women's counterpart to the National Basketball Association (NBA); league play began in 1997. The regular season runs from May to September, with each team playing 44 games. The top eight teams (regardless of conference) qualify for the playoffs, culminating in the WNBA Finals, which is played in October. Rebecca Kate "Bec" Allen (born 6 November 1992) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Chicago Sky of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Allen was a member of the Australian Women's basketball team (Opals) at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Opals were eliminated after losing to the USA in the quarterfinals. Early life Allen was born in Wangaratta, Victoria and moved to Melbourne with her family when she was five years old. She is a dizygotic twin. Jayne Appel-Marinelli (born May 14, 1988) is an American former basketball center who played for the San Antonio Stars of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) in 2016. She played collegiate basketball at Stanford University. Early life Born in Berkeley, California, Jayne has two older brothers, Mike and Tommy, and one younger brother, Nate. Personal Anosike was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Staten Island where she attended St. Peter's High School for Girls. Kristine Chioma Anigwe (born March 31, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for SERCO UNI Győr in the EuroLeague. Early life Kristine Anigwe was born in London to Nigerian parents. She and her siblings were raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and attended Desert Vista High School. At age 17, Anigwe became a U.S. citizen in June 2014. Yvette Angel is a former basketball player and coach who played collegiately for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and professionally in the WNBA for the Sacramento Monarchs. Career In high school, Angel played for the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart women's team under coach Sister Maria Pares. The team was undefeated during Angel's career, having reached a 109-game winning streak. For her college career, Angel played for the Ohio State Buckeyes during the team's first four years in the Big Ten Conference. In all four of Angel's seasons, the Buckeyes were the conference's regular season champions, and were undefeated in all 18 intraconference games during the 1984–85 season, Angel's final year with the team. Keisha Anderson is an American basketball player. As a high school senior at Park High School in Racine, Wisconsin she received Wisconsin Miss Basketball and Parade All American. Anderson received a full basketball scholarship to the University of Arizona during 1992-93 and was selected to the all-freshman Pac 10 team. She transferred to University of Wisconsin.
