This is a list of the West Australian Football League premiers, the premier state-based Australian rules football league in Western Australia, and includes premiers of the Western Australian Football Association (1885–1906), West Australian Football League (1907-1924), Western Australian Football League (1925-1927), Western Australian National Football League (1928–1979), West Australian Football League (1980-1989), WA State League (1990), West Australian Football League (1991-1996), Westar Rules (1997–2000) and West Australian Football League (2001-). In 1967, WAFL football historian Dave Clement discovered a discrepancy between the official premiership list as published by the league and what he had determined from examination of records from the time. West Australian Football League
The West Australian Football League (WAFL "waffle" or "W-A-F-L") is an Australian rules football league based in Perth, Western Australia. The league currently consists of ten teams, which play each other in a 20-round season usually lasting from April to September, with the top five teams playing off in a finals series, culminating in a Grand Final. The league also runs reserves, colts (under-19) and women's competitions. The WAFL was founded in 1885 as the West Australian Football Association (WAFA), and has undergone a variety of name changes since then, re-adopting its current name in 2001. Imperials Football Club
The Imperials Football Club was an Australian rules football club based in Fremantle, Western Australia. Formed in 1892, the club competed in the West Australian Junior Football Association for three seasons from 1892 to 1894, and was admitted to the senior West Australian Football Association in 1895. History The club is first mentioned in the fixtures for the 1892 junior football season, but it may have been formed before then. The last published premiership tables, produced in ''The West Australian'' on 27 September 1892, had Imperials first on 14 points, having won seven and lost one of their eight games. Imperials were admitted into the senior competition, the West Australian Football Association (WAFA), for the 1895 season. Poss Watson
William Wright "Poss" Watson (25 August 1868 – 20 August 1950) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and Fremantle in the West Australian Football Association. Originally from Warrnambool, Watson played alongside Albert Thurgood in Essendon's four consecutive VFA premierships between 1891 and 1894, before getting married and moving to Western Australia (with Thurgood) to play for Fremantle, captaining the team and winning three more premierships in the next four years.
