This is an incomplete list of hurlers who have played at senior level for the Tipperary county team. The players in this list included are from 1887 onwards. This list also includes a number of players from the first county selection in 1886, a year before the first All-Ireland Senior Championship. This list is an A-Z of Tipperary senior hurlers that have donned the blue and gold jersey of Tipperary and the All-Ireland SHC and Munster SHC medals that they have individually won. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The ' can be caught in the hand and carried for not more than four steps, struck in the air or struck on the ground with the hurley. It can be kicked, or slapped with an open hand (the hand pass), for short-range passing. James Barry (hurler)
James Barry (born 29 June 1990) is an Irish hurler who plays for Tipperary Senior Championship club Upperchurch–Drombane. He played for the Tipperary senior hurling team for six seasons, during which time he usually lined out in defence as a centre-back and later as a full-back. Barry began his hurling career at club level with Upperchurch-Drombane. He broke onto the club's top adult team as a 15-year-old in 2005 and has been an ever-present defender since then. As a member of the University College Cork team, Barry won back-to-back Fitzgibbon Cup titles. Barry lined out for Tipperary in four different grades of hurling over a 12-year period. After making his first appearance for the minor team in May 2007, he ended the year by sharing in the All-Ireland Championship success. Mick Burns (hurler)
Mick Burns (1937 – 22 February 2023) was an Irish hurler who played for his local club Nenagh Éire Óg and was a member of the Tipperary senior inter-county team in the 1950s and 1960s. Career Burns was born in Nenagh, County Tipperary. He won five All-Ireland titles and eight Munster titles with Tipperary between 1958 and 1968. He won two North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championships with Éire Óg in 1957 and as captain in 1964. Death Burns died on 22 February 2023, at the age of 85. Borrisokane GAA
Borrisokane GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Tipperary in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Located in the town of Borrisokane, it is one of the oldest Gaelic games clubs in Ireland. It plays hurling and Gaelic football at all levels in the North division of Tipperary GAA. Eoin Brislane
Eoin Brislane (born 1981) is an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Tipperary and Meath senior teams. Born in Toomevara, County Tipperary, Brislane first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Joseph's College in Borrisoleigh. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2003 league. Brislane went on to play a bit part for the team before joining the Meath senior team in 2007. At club level Brislane is a two-time Munster medalist with Toomevara. In addition to this he has also won seven championship medals. Throughout his career Brislane made 3 championship appearances. Loughmore-Castleiney is an ecclesiastical parish in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly. It is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Tony Brennan
James Anthony Brennan (13 January 1916 – 4 November 1965) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Clonoulty–Rossmore and with the Tipperary senior inter-county team from 1939 until 1953. Brennan is regarded as one of Tipperary's greatest-ever players. Biography Tony Brennan was born in Clonoulty, County Tipperary in 1916 to a family steeped in sporting history. His uncles, on his father's side, were outstanding athletes in their day in their native place of Boyle, County Roscommon. A maternal uncle was Phil Byrne who won four All-Ireland hurling medals with Tipperary in 1895, 1896, 1898 and in 1899. Another uncle, Tom Byrne, won two All-Ireland football medals with Dublin in 1892 and 1894. Cormac Bonnar
Cormac Bonnar (born 31 May 1959) is an Irish retired hurler. His league and championship career with the Tipperary senior team spanned twelve seasons from 1980 to 1992. Bonnar first appeared for the Cashel King Cormacs club at juvenile and underage levels, before eventually joining the club's senior team. The highlight of his club career came in 1991 when he won a Munster medal, having earlier won a county championship medal. Bonnar later played with St Patrick's and Dr Crokes. Bonnar made his debut on the inter-county scene when he was selected for the Tipperary minor team. He enjoyed one unsuccessful championship season with the minor team before subsequently becoming a dual player at under-21 level. With the under-21 hurling team he won back-to-back All-Ireland medals in 1979 and 1980. Bonnar subsequently made his senior debut during the 1980-81 league. Conal Bonnar
Conal Bonnar (born 13 October 1969) is an Irish retired hurler. His league and championship career with the Tipperary senior team lasted twelve seasons from 1988 to 1999. Bonnar first appeared for the Cashel King Cormacs club at juvenile and underage levels, before eventually joining the club's senior team. The highlight of his club career came in 1991 when he won a Munster medal, having earlier won a county championship medal. Bonanr made his debut on the inter-county scene when he was selected for the Tipperary minor team in 1986. He enjoyed one championship seasons with the minor team, however, he ended his tenure in this grade as an All-Ireland runner-up. Cashel King Cormacs GAA
Cashel King Cormacs GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Cashel, County Tipperary in Ireland. They play their games in Leahy Park, on the Clonmel Road in Cashel. The club is named for the king-bishop Cormac Mac Cárthaigh (d. 1138). Extensive work has been carried out in the last few years, with the addition of a new clubhouse and main stand the highlight. Notable games have been held here in the last few years and it has become the annual venue for both the County Senior Club Football Final and the Munster Colleges Senior Hurling Dr.Harty Cup Final. Colm Bonnar
Colm Bonnar (born 12 June 1964) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. He is the former manager of the Tipperary senior hurling team having served as manager from September 2021 to July 2022. He is also the former manager of the Carlow senior hurling team. Bonnar played for club sides Cashel King Cormacs and Dunhill and was a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team for 13 seasons, during which time he usually lined out at midfield. Bonnar began his hurling career at club level with Cashel King Cormacs. He broke onto the club's top adult team after championship success in the minor and under-21 grades. Bonnar enjoyed his greatest success when he captained the club to the 1991 Munster Club Championship. He later transferred to the Dunhill club in Waterford.
