This is a list of notable Americans who self-identify themselves as Americans of Spanish descent, including both original immigrants who obtained American citizenship and their American descendants. There are also many people in the United States of Hispanic "national" origin, (''e.g. Mexican Americans, Cuban Americans, etc) or other Latin Americans, who self-identify their heritage as being Spaniard in census data. Anh Duong
Anh Duong (born 25 October 1960) is a French-American artist, actress, and model. She is known for her self-portraits, which she has compared to a visual diary, as well as portraits of significant art collectors and influencers. Early life Duong was born in Bordeaux, France, to a Spanish mother and a Vietnamese father. Duong studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. Having aspired to be a ballerina from an early age, she decided to pursue classical dance. Duong studied with the Franchetti Academy of Classical Dance and Tessa Beaumont until she embarked on a modeling career—being photographed for ''Vogue'', among other publications. In 1988, Duong moved to New York City and began a career as an artist and an actress. Modeling career While she was a ballet dancer in Paris, Duong was discovered by photographer David Seidner. Mills College
Mills College at Northeastern University is a private college in Oakland, California and part of Northeastern University's global university system. Mills College was founded as the Young Ladies Seminary in 1852 in Benicia, California; it was relocated to Oakland in 1871 and became the first women's college west of the Rockies. In 2022, it merged with Northeastern University following several years of severe financial difficulties. History Mills College was initially founded as the Young Ladies Seminary in the city of Benicia in 1852 under the leadership of Mary Atkins, a graduate of Oberlin College. Antonio Prieto (artist)
Antonio Prieto (1912–1967) was a ceramic artist and art professor at Mills College in Oakland, California. He was instrumental in developing an important ceramics collection for the Mills College Art Museum. He was born in Yaldepenas, Spain on August 23, 1912, and died in Oakland on March 11, 1967. History Prieto immigrated to the United States as a child in 1916. After studying at Alfred University from 1943 to 1946, he chaired the Ceramics Program and taught at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland (now California College of the Arts) from 1946 to 1950. At the time, F. Carlton Ball was teaching ceramics at Mills College. When Ball left Mills, Prieto succeeded him. While teaching at Mills College from 1950 to 1967, Prieto compiled a personal collection of ceramic art, including works by Robert Arneson, Viola Frey, Henry Varnum Poor, Peter Voulkos, and Marguerite Wildenhain. Mission San Miguel Arcángel
Mission San Miguel Arcángel is a Spanish mission in San Miguel, California. It was established on July 25, 1797 by the Franciscan order, on a site chosen specifically due to the large number of Salinan Indians that inhabited the area, whom the Spanish priests wanted to evangelize. The mission remains in use as a parish church of the Diocese of Monterey. After being closed to the public for six years due to the 2003 San Simeon earthquake, the church reopened on September 29, 2009. Inside the church are murals designed by Esteban Munras. The mission was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and was named to a National Historic Landmark in 2006. Of California's missions, it is one that retains more than most of its layout and buildings, including a portion of its neophyte village. Victor Moscoso
Victor Moscoso (born July 28, 1936) is a Spanish–American artist best known for producing psychedelic rock posters, advertisements, and underground comix in San Francisco during the 1960s and 1970s. He was the first of the rock poster artists of the 1960s era with formal academic training and experience. He was the first of the rock poster artists to use photographic collage in many of his posters. Early life and education Moscoso was born in the Vilaboa parish of Culleredo, Galicia. Adele Carolyn Morales (June 12, 1925 – November 22, 2015) was an American painter and memoirist. Early life Morales was born in New York City, to a family of Peruvian origin.
