List Of Singaporean Patriotic Songs
This article contains a list of Singaporean patriotic songs. A patriotic song is one which inspires feelings of pride in one's country, in which this context, is Singapore. The list has both traditional folk songs that have special meaning to Singaporeans, as well as modern songs composed specifically for national celebrations, particularly the National Day Parade held on 9 August each year since 1965, Singapore's National Day. Generally speaking, there may be said to be two types of Singaporean patriotic songs. The first type are traditional folk songs that have, over time, come to have special meaning to Singaporeans. Many of these are in vernacular languages – Malay, Mandarin and Tamil, for instance. Tanya Chua
Tanya Chua (; born 28 January 1975) is a Singaporean singer-songwriter. She launched her singing career by releasing her debut studio album ''Bored'' in 1997. She was part of the trio that sang "Moments of Magic" (1999), Singapore's official millennium song. Mavis Hee
Mavis Hee Pee Hong (born 27 September 1974) is a Singaporean singer, songwriter and actress. She was the second runner-up and also Miss Photogenic and Miss Amity in Singapore's Miss Chinatown Pageant 1992. Career In 1994, songwriter and producer Chen Jiaming organised a singing contest to scout for potential singers for his new record company. Hee entered the contest and was picked by Chen. Hee's first album ''Knowingly'' () was released in August 1994. After the release, Taiwanese singer-composer Jonathan Lee invited her to join his production company. However, Hee rejected the offer so that she could continue working with her mentor, Chen. Hee went on to release other chart-topping albums. Her debut album in Taiwan, ''Regret'', propelled her to regional stardom. Evelyn Tan Yuit Yin (born 7 October 1974) is a Singaporean actress, host, educator and former singer. Tan was ranked by local media as the 'Fifth Ah Jie' for being the fifth most prominent actress in Singapore's Chinese-language entertainment industry of that time after Zoe Tay, Fann Wong, Ann Kok and Phyllis Quek. She was prominently a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 1997 to 2005. Jim Aitchison (born 1947), better known by his pen name James Lee, is an Australian writer. Biography Born in Australia, Aitchison lived in Singapore as a permanent resident from 1983 until 2010 when he returned to Langwarrin, Victoria. Before he became a full-time writer, Aitchison was a voice actor, and creative director of an advertising agency. He also published books on business and advertising. Works Aitchison's earliest work was a script called ''Under Her Spell'' written for Grace Gibson Radio Productions using the pseudonym David Carrick. While working for an advertising agency, Aitchison penned the first two episodes and slipped them under the office door. Jeremy Monteiro
Jeremy Ian Monteiro (born 20 June 1960, Singapore) is a Singaporean jazz pianist, singer, composer, and music educator. In Singapore he was mentioned by the local press as Singapore's "King of Swing". Monteiro was awarded the Cultural Medallion (in the Music category) by the National Arts Council, Singapore in 2002. Career Monteiro is a Eurasian Singaporean. In 2021, Monteiro was elected chairman of Compass (Composers and Authors Society of Singapore). Jacintha Abisheganaden (born 3 October 1957), known professionally as Jacintha, is a Singaporean singer, actress, and theater practitioner who studied at the National University of Singapore and received a degree in arts, majoring in English literature. She is a founding member of the performance company TheatreWorks. Zubir Said ( ; 22 July 1907 – 16 November 1987) was a Singaporean composer most notable for composing the national anthem of his country, "Majulah Singapura" – "Onward Singapore".
