List Of Shortland Street Characters (1997)
The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the New Zealand soap opera ''Shortland Street'' in 1997, by order of first appearance. Marion Seymour Marion Seymour (also Daniels) appeared in a guest stint in 1997. She first appeared in mid-1997 when she pressured her son, Ian (David Press) into having a family so as to continue the Seymour empire. Her daughter Margaret was unable to do so due to her sexuality. After discovering the truth, she attempted to expose Ian's dodgy business dealings concerning faulty heart valves and attempts at overtaking the hospital, to his partner, Jenny (Maggie Harper). However whilst arguing with Ian, she suffered a heart attack and died, with no attempts of help from Ian. ''Shortland Street'' is a New Zealand Prime time, prime-time soap opera centring on the fictitious Shortland Street Hospital. The show was first broadcast on TVNZ 2 on 25 May 1992 and is New Zealand's longest-running drama and soap opera, being broadcast continuously for over 8,000 episodes and 32 years (as of December 2024). It is one of the most watched television programmes in New Zealand. The show was originally screened as five half-hour episodes each week, and received mixed reviews on its premiere. After its launch, the show suffered a drop in ratings and would have been cancelled if TVNZ had not ordered a year's worth of episodes in advance. TVNZ renewed the production in early 1993 after the show's ratings picked up, and the show has since garnered "long-term public enthusiasm". Ian Seymour
Ian Albert Seymour (born December 13, 1998) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut during the 2025 season. Amateur career Seymour attended Saint John's High School in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. He went 4–0 with a 0.48 ERA as a senior in 2017. Following graduation, he enrolled at Virginia Tech where he played college baseball. As a freshman in 2018, he made appeared in 14 games (13 starts) in which he compiled a 4.17 ERA and seventy strikeouts over 69 innings. In 2019, he started 13 games, going 4–5 with a 3.97 ERA and 81 strikeouts. After the 2019 season, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He pitched only innings in 2020 before the remainder of the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jenny Harrison (Shortland Street)
Jenny Harrison is a fictional character on the New Zealand soap opera ''Shortland Street''. She was portrayed by Maggie Harper as part of the show's original cast, making her first appearance in the second episode. Harper quit the role in 1998 but reprised the character briefly 4 years later. Jenny was created as the single mother of teenage rebel, Nick Harrison ( Karl Burnett) after surviving an abusive marriage with Nick's father.
