Katowice Trade Hall Roof Collapse
On 28 January 2006, the roof of one of the buildings at the Katowice International Fair () collapsed in Chorzów/Katowice, Poland. 65 people died in this incident. At 16:15 GMT (17:15 local time), the central section of the roof of the hall collapsed, possibly due to the weight of snow on the building. According to the police there were roughly 700 people in the hall at the time of the collapse. A further collapse occurred 90 minutes later during rescue operations. Polish government spokesman Krzysztof Mejer confirmed that there had been 65 dead as well as more than 170 injured, including 13 foreigners. There are confirmed deaths of ten foreign tourists – one from Belgium, one from Germany, three from Slovakia, one from the Netherlands, one from Hungary and three from the Czech Republic. sank on 14 January 1993, between about 04:10 and 05:12 (UTC+1) as the ship was crossing the Baltic Sea, en route from Świnoujście, Poland, to Ystad, Sweden. Out of 64 passengers and crew, 55 died in the disaster, making it the largest peacetime maritime disaster in Polish history. Background , a roll-on/roll-off ship, was launched in 1977. TVN24 is a Polish 24-hour commercial news channel, launched on 9 August 2001. Being a part of the TVN Network, TVN24 has been owned since 2018 by US-based media company Warner Bros. Discovery ( Discovery, Inc. before 2022). It gained broader popularity after the September 11, 2001 attacks in the US, which was the first major incident to be covered by TVN24. 1980 Górna Grupa Psychiatric Hospital Fire
The 1980 Górna Grupa psychiatric hospital fire occurred on the night of October 31 to November 1, 1980, in what was then the Polish People's Republic. Fifty-five patients were killed, and 26 were seriously injured. The facility in Górna Grupa was a branch of the State Hospital for the Nervous and Mentally Ill in Świecie. It was housed in a 19th-century palace. Due to underfunding and years of neglect, fire protection measures were exceptionally poor. The fire, most likely caused by a leak in the chimney flue, was discovered too late. A combination of several factors led to a chaotic rescue operation conducted under extremely difficult conditions. 1934 Flood In Poland
Polish flood of 1934 () was the biggest flood in the Second Polish Republic. It began with heavy rains in the Dunajec river basin, which took place between 13 and 17 July 1934. In the following days, the flood spread to the basins of the Raba, Wisłoka, and Skawa, all of which are tributaries to the Vistula. The disaster took the lives of 55 people and caused damages estimated at 60 million interbellum zlotys.
