Platanus
''Platanus'' is a genus consisting of a small number of tree species native to the Northern Hemisphere. They are the sole living members of the family Platanaceae. All mature members of ''Platanus'' are tall, reaching in height. All except for ''Platanus kerrii, P. kerrii'' are deciduous, and most are found in riparian or other wetland habitat (ecology), habitats in the wild, though proving drought-tolerant in cultivation. The hybrid London plane (''Platanus ''×'' acerifolia'') has proved particularly tolerant of urban conditions, and has been widely planted in London and elsewhere in the United Kingdom. They are often known in English as ''planes'' or ''plane trees''. A formerly used name that is now rare is ''plantain tree'' (not to be confused with Plantain (other), other, unrelated, species with the name). Some North American species are called ''sycamores'' (especially ''Platanus occidentalis''), although the term is also used for Sycamore, several unrelated s ... Physalospora Rhodina
''Lasiodiplodia theobromae'' is a plant pathogen with a very wide host range. It causes rotting and dieback in most species it infects. It is a common post harvest fungus disease of citrus known as stem-end rot. It is a cause of bot canker of grapevine.Identification and Pathogenicity of Lasiodiplodia theobromae and Diplodia seriata, the Causal Agents of Bot Canker Disease of Grapevines in Mexico. J. R. Úrbez-Torres, G. M. Leavitt, J. C. Guerrero, J. Guevara and W. D. Gubler, Plant Disease, April 2008, Volume 92, Number 4, pages 519-529, It also infects ''Biancaea sappan'', a species of flowering tree also known as Sappanwood. On rare occasions it has been found to cause fungal keratitis, lesions on nail and subcutaneous tissue. It has been implicated in the widespread mortality of baobab ('' Adansonia digitata'') trees in Southern Africa. A preliminary study found the deaths to have a complex set of causes requiring detailed research. Host and symptoms ''L. theobromae'' ... Libertella
''Libertella'' is a genus of fungi belonging to the family Diatrypaceae. The genus was first described by John Baptiste Henri Joseph Desmazières in 1830, and the genus name of ''Libertella'' is in honour of Marie-Anne Libert (1782-1865), who was a Belgian botanist and mycologist. She was one of the first women plant pathologists. The genus has cosmopolitan distribution In biogeography, cosmopolitan distribution is the term for the range of a taxon that extends across all or most of the world in appropriate habitats. Such a taxon, usually a species, is said to exhibit cosmopolitanism or cosmopolitism. The ext .... Eutypella Parasitica
''Eutypella'' canker is a plant disease caused by the fungal pathogen ''Eutypella parasitica''. This disease is capable of infecting many species of maple trees and produces a large, distinguishable canker on the main trunk of the tree. Infection and spread of the disease is accomplished with the release of ascospores from perithecia. Therefore, the best way to manage the ''Eutypella'' canker is to remove trees that have been infected. If infected, it can decrease the quality of wood cut for lumber and can thus have a negative economic impact. Hosts and symptoms Eutypella canker infects many species of maple trees, most prevalently the sugar maple (''Acer saccharum''). Others commonly affected are the red maple ('' Acer rubrum''), box elder (''Acer negundo''), striped maple (''Acer pensylvanicum''), Norway maple (''Acer platanoides''), sycamore maple (''Acer pseudoplatanus''), silver maple ('' Acer saccharinum''), and black maple (''Acer nigrum''). Onset usually occurs with gr ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

''Ceratocystis platani'' is a fungus that causes a disease on plane trees in the genus ''Platanus''. Description ''Ceratocystis platani'' is believed to be native to southeastern USA. Ceratostomella Fimbriata
''Ceratocystis fimbriata'' is a fungus and a plant pathogen, attacking such diverse plants as the sweet potato ('' black rot'') and the tapping panels of the Para rubber tree (''moldy rot''). It is a diverse species that attacks a wide variety of annual and perennial plants. There are several host-specialized strains, some of which, such as '' Ceratocystis platani'' that attacks plane trees, are now described as distinct species. Taxonomy ''Ceratocystis fimbriata'', the type species of the genus ''Ceratocystis'', was originally described on the sweet potato (''Ipomoea batatus'') in 1890. It has since been found on a wide variety of annual and perennial plants. It is a large, diverse complex of species that cause wilt-type diseases of many economically important plants. There are thought to be three broad geographic clades, the North American, the Latin American and the Asian clades. It is thought likely that ''Ceratocystis fimbriata'' contains many undescribed, hidden species ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Hypoxylon Deustum
''Kretzschmaria deusta'', commonly known as brittle cinder, is a fungus and plant pathogen found in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It is common on a wide range of broadleaved trees including beech (''Fagus''), oak (''Quercus''), lime (''Tilia''), Horse Chestnut and maple (''Acer''). It also causes serious damage in the base of rubber, tea, coffee and palms. It causes a soft rot, initially and preferentially degrading cellulose and ultimately breaking down both cellulose and lignin, and colonises the lower stem and/or roots of living trees through injuries or by root contact with infected trees. It can result in sudden breakage in otherwise apparently healthy trees. The fungus continues to decay wood after the host tree has died, making ''K. deusta'' a facultative parasite A facultative parasite is an organism that may resort to parasitic activity, but does not absolutely rely on any host for completion of its life cycle. Examples of facultative parasitism oc ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
