Paramount Pictures Corporation, commonly known as Paramount Pictures or simply Paramount, is an American film production company, production and Distribution (marketing), distribution company and the flagship namesake subsidiary of Paramount Global. It is the sixth-oldest film studio in the world, the second-oldest film studio in the United States (behind Universal Pictures), and the sole member of the Major film studio, "Big Five" film studios located within the city limits of Los Angeles. In 1916, film producer Adolph Zukor put 24 actors and actresses under contract and honored each with a star on the logo. In 1967, the number of stars was reduced to 22 and their hidden meaning was dropped. William LeBaron
William LeBaron (February 16, 1883February 9, 1958) was an American film producer, lyricist, librettist, playwright, and screenwriter. LeBaron authored several plays for Broadway; including the books and lyrics for several musicals in addition to non-musical works staged in New York City between 1911 and 1925. Some of these plays were adapted into films; including his 1917 play '' The Very Idea'', which was made into a silent film in 1920 and a talking picture in 1929; and his 1921 play '' Nobody's Money'', which was adapted into a film in 1923. He also authored the libretti to operettas composed by Victor Herbert, Emmerich Kálmán, Fritz Kreisler and Victor Jacobi. By 1926 LeBaron had relocated from New York City to Los Angeles, and was thereafter predominantly active as a film producer. Frank Yablans
Frank Yablans (August 27, 1935 – November 27, 2014) was an American studio executive, film producer, and screenwriter. Yablans served as an executive at Paramount Pictures, including President of the studio, in the 1960s and 1970s. Early life Frank Yablans was born in Brooklyn, New York to Annette and Morris Yablans. Yablans' father was a taxi driver. His older brother, Irwin Yablans, produced ''Halloween'' (1978). Yablans was Jewish. Career Yablans entered the motion picture business in 1956, joining Warner Bros. sales. In 1959, he joined Buena Vista as the Milwaukee sales manager where he stayed until 1966. He joined Sigma III and later transitioned to Filmways after it acquired Sigma III. Barney Balaban
Barney Balaban (June 8, 1887 – March 7, 1971) was an American film executive and innovator in the film industry who was president of Paramount Pictures from 1936 to 1964, and honorary chairman until his death. Life and career Barney Balaban was the eldest of the seven sons of Bessarabian-Jewish immigrants Augusta "Goldie" (''née'' Mandebursky, later Levin) from Odesa and grocery store owner Israel Balaban, from Tiraspol. His siblings in order were A. J., Leah, Ida, John, Max, Dave, Harry and Elmer. Balaban worked as a messenger boy and a cold storage company employee until 1908, when he was persuaded, at age 21, to go into the cinema business. According to a 1945 article in ''Forbes'' magazine, his mother came home from her first picture show and commented, "The customers pay before they even see what they're paying for! The films he produced were some of the most popular films of the 1970s and 1980s, including the key Brat Pack films '' The Breakfast Club'' and '' St. Elmo's Fire'', as well as '' Smokey and the Bandit'', ''American Graffiti'', '' Coal Miner's Daughter'', '' The Deer Hunter'', '' Crocodile Dundee'', ''Top Gun'', ''Animal House'', and many others.
