The Odia film industry, colloquially known as Ollywood, is the Odia language Indian film industry, based in Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack in Odisha, India. The name Ollywood is a portmanteau of the words Odia and Hollywood. Industry In 1974, the Government of Odisha declared film making and construction of cinema theatres as an industry in the state, and in 1976 it established the Odisha Film Development Corporation in Cuttack. History Odisha has a history of filmmaking, starting from 1936. The first Odia film is '' Sita Bibaha'', made by Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami in 1936. Drawn from the Indian epic ''Ramayana'', the story is about the marriage of Sita and Ram. The film plot was made from a drama written by Kamapala Mishra. Prepared with a budget of only Rs 30,000, the film has 14 song sequences. Mihir Kumar Das (17 February 1959 – 11 January 2022) was an Indian actor who worked in Odia language films (Ollywood industry). He had received several awards, notably Best Actor for his films ''Laxmi Pratima'' in 1998 and ''Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni'' in 2005 Best Supporting Actor award for his films ''Rakhi Bandhili Mo Rakhiba Mana'' in 2002 and ''Prema Adhei Akhyara'' and Best Comedian award for ''Mu Tate Love Karuchhi'' in 2007 from the Odisha state government. Life and career Mihir Kumar Das was born in Mayurbhanj on 11 February 1959. He was married to singer and film artist Sangita Das, who died in 2010 due to heart attack. Debu Bose was an Indian actor born in Odisha, British India. Bose made his debut in the film ''Tapasya'' in 1980. The actor has acted in over 120 movies within his career, spanning over four decades. Hara Pattanaik (12 October 1958 – 13 January 2015), also known as Hari Patnaik, was an Indian actor, director and screenplay writer known for his works in Odia cinema. He has acted over 60 Odia-language movies and directed about 19 others. Pattanaik was instrumental in introducing other actors including Anubhav Mohanty, Sabyasachi Mishra and Babushaan. Uttam Mohanty is an Indian actor who has to his credit more than 135 Odia films to date and has acted in 30 Bengali films and in a Hindi film ''Naya Zaher''. Early life Uttam Mohanty was born and brought up at Baripada in Odisha. His grandfather settled in Baripada 150 years ago. He completed his early education from M.K.C. High School. As a child he was very naughty which brought fresh complaints from outside. After matriculation he joined Maharaja Purnachandra College for intermediate in science. During his college days he was inclined more towards acting. He always tried to play the lead part in dramas. He was equally passionate to sports like badminton and table tennis.
