The Odia film industry, colloquially known as Ollywood, is the Odia language Indian film industry, based in Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack in Odisha, India. The name Ollywood is a portmanteau of the words Odia and Hollywood. Industry In 1974, the Government of Odisha declared film making and construction of cinema theatres as an industry in the state, and in 1976 it established the Odisha Film Development Corporation in Cuttack. History Odisha has a history of filmmaking, starting from 1936. The first Odia film is '' Sita Bibaha'', made by Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami in 1936. Drawn from the Indian epic ''Ramayana'', the story is about the marriage of Sita and Ram. The film plot was made from a drama written by Kamapala Mishra. Prepared with a budget of only Rs 30,000, the film has 14 song sequences. Ashoka (, ; also ''Asoka''; 304 – 232 BCE), popularly known as Ashoka the Great, was the third emperor of the Maurya Empire of Indian subcontinent during to 232 BCE. His empire covered a large part of the Indian subcontinent, stretching from present-day Afghanistan in the west to present-day Bangladesh in the east, with its capital at Pataliputra. A patron of Buddhism, he is credited with playing an important role in the spread of Buddhism across ancient Asia. Ulrich Schröder (born 1 January 1964), known under the pseudonym Praful ( ), is an acid jazz artist who performs on several instruments including tenor and soprano saxophones, Indian bamboo flutes, pandeiros, Fender Rhodes and many electronic effects. Two of his CDs ''One Day Deep'' and ''Pyramid in Your Backyard'' have won many awards and worldwide recognition. "Sigh", included in the ''One Day Deep'' CD and as a single, had stayed in the Billboards for over 70 weeks. Praful's songs show a wide variety of rhythm and roots. On ''One Day Deep'', "Sonhar" features a fast Indian dance rhythm. On the same CD, "Let the Chips Fall" reveals a relaxing acid jazz rhythm. He lives near Amsterdam, the Netherlands. ''Suryamukhi'' is a 1963 Oriya film directed by Prafulla Sengupta. Plot Raju lives with his brother Mohan and mother in a remote village. Gita and Raju love each other. As Raju is a brilliant student, he goes to Cuttack for higher education. There, he meets Usha, his classmate. Usha is inspired by the honesty, simplicity and intellect of Raju and falls in love with him. But Usha's father Rai Bahadur, a wealthy person in the town, doesn't accept his daughter's love interest with a poor village boy. Rai Bahadur insults Raju and threatens him to leave Usha's life. Bandreddi Sukumar (born 23 January 1970) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer who works in Telugu cinema. He is known for his complex, multi-layered screenplays and for infusing grey shades in the character sketches of his protagonists. He is one of the highest paid directors in South Indian cinema. Sukumar worked as a mathematics and physics lecturer at a junior college in Kakinada for nearly seven years before pursuing a directional career in films.
