The New Zealand national netball team, commonly known as the Silver Ferns ( or ), represent Netball New Zealand in international netball tournaments such as the Netball World Cup, the Netball at the Commonwealth Games, Commonwealth Games, the Taini Jamison Trophy, the Constellation Cup, the Netball Quad Series and the Fast5 Netball World Series. Tracey Fear
Tracey Fear (born 1959) was an Australian-born netball player who played 63 times for New Zealand. In 1999 she was chosen as a member of New Zealand's "Team of the Century". She later worked for Netball New Zealand and was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2018. Early life Tracey Fear was born in Canberra, Australia on 19 August 1959. Her parents were talented athletes, mother played netball, while her father played Australian rules football, cricket and competed in veteran athletics into his 70’s. She moved to New Zealand in 1974 when her father was posted to the Australian High Commission in New Zealand's capital, Wellington where she met her future husband while at Hutt Valley High School.In 1978, Tracey married Terry in Canberra before moving back to NZ and following 3 years of representing ACT in netball, she began her netball career in NZ. 1987 World Netball Championships
The 1987 World Netball Championships was the seventh edition of the INF Netball World Cup held in Glasgow, Scotland. This quadrennial premier event in international netball featured 17 teams, and included the debut of Cook Islands. The format of the 1987 edition was similar to the previous edition with the teams separated into two groups with the top two continuing on to the final round. Leigh Gibbs
Leigh Helen Gibbs (, born 1956) is a New Zealand retired netball player who played for the national team on 61 occasions and was captain for the 1987 World Netball Championships when New Zealand won the gold medal. She was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in 2001. Early life Leigh Helen Gibbs (née Mills) was born in Gisborne, New Zealand on 17 July 1956. She was educated at Lytton High School in Gisborne. She obtained a diploma in physical education at the University of Otago, following this with a one-year course to obtain an education diploma at the Christchurch College of Education. Netball career Gibbs represented Otago in netball from 1974 to 1976 and Canterbury from 1977 to 1986. Netball At The 1985 World Games
The Netball tournament at the 1985 World Games was played at London's Crystal Palace National Sports Centre from 2 August to 4 August 1985. It was the first time netball was played at a World Games. It featured England, Australia, Jamaica, New Zealand, Northern Ireland and Scotland. With a team coached by Lois Muir and captained by Lyn Parker, New Zealand won the tournament, winning all five matches they played. The 1983 World Netball Championships was the sixth edition of the INF Netball World Cup, a quadrennial premier event in international netball. It took place from 11 to 24 June and was held in Singapore. This edition of the tournament featured 14 teams, of which Hong Kong and Malaysia both made their World Championship debut. Australia went undefeated in the first round then successfully defended its title going undefeated in the final round for their fifth title. Lyn Gunson
Lyn Gunson (born 31 December 1953), also known as Lyn Parker, is a former New Zealand netball international and a former head coach of both the New Zealand and England national netball teams. She captained New Zealand when they won the 1985 World Games title and coached them when they retained the same title in 1989. In 1989 she was named New Zealand Coach of the Year. Between 1999 and 2008 Gunson also served as head coach and/or director of netball for Team Bath, guiding them to Netball Superleague titles in 2005–06 and 2006–07. Early life and education Gunson is originally from Northland, New Zealand. In 1974 she graduated from the University of Otago with a Diploma in Physical Education. The 1975 World Netball Championships was the fourth edition of the INF Netball World Cup, a quadrennial premier event in international netball. Shirley Langrope
Shirley Anne Langrope (born 15 November 1945) is a former New Zealand netball international. Between 1969 and 1975, she made 19 senior appearances for New Zealand. She was a member of the New Zealand team that won a silver medal at the 1971 World Netball Championships and captained New Zealand when they won a bronze medal at the 1975 World Netball Championships. Four of her cousins – Maxine Blomquist, Annette Heffernan, Kate Heffernan and Georgia Heffernan – have all played international netball for New Zealand.
