List Of Michelin-starred Restaurants In Japan
This is an incomplete list of Michelin-starred restaurants in Japan. The ''Michelin Guides'' have been published by the French tire company Michelin since 1900. They were designed as a guide to tell drivers about eateries they recommended to visit and to subtly sponsor their tires, by encouraging drivers to use their cars more and therefore need to replace the tires as they wore out. Over time, the stars that were given out started to become more valuable. Multiple anonymous Michelin inspectors visit the restaurants several times. They rate the restaurants on five criteria: "quality of products", "mastery of flavor and cooking techniques", "the personality of the chef represented in the dining experience", "value for money", and "consistency between inspectors' visits". Inspectors have at least ten years of expertise and create a list of popular restaurants supported by media reports, reviews, and diner popularity. Meguro
is a special ward in Tokyo, Japan. The English translation of its Japanese self-designation is Meguro City. The ward was founded on March 15, 1947. Meguro is predominantly residential in character, but is also home to light industry, corporate head offices, the Komaba campus of University of Tokyo as well as fifteen foreign embassies and consulates. Residential neighborhoods include, Jiyugaoka, Kakinokizaka, and Nakameguro. As of May 1, 2015, the ward has an estimated population of 277,171 and a population density of 18,890 persons per km2. Kadowaki (restaurant)
, or Kadowaki for short, is a Michelin 3-star Kaiseki restaurant in Azabu-Jūban, Japan run by chef Toshima Kadowaki. The restaurant opened in August 2000 and initially refused Michelin stars, before gaining two stars in 2010 and subsequently gained 3 stars in 2020. Restaurant The tasting menu consists of various different set courses with seasonal specialties. Example of seasonal ingredients include matsuba crab and matsutake mushrooms among many others. Sushi Saito
is a Japanese cuisine restaurant in Minato, Tokyo, primarily known for serving sushi. It had three Michelin stars until it chose to stop accepting reservations from the general public. Description Sushi Saito, owned by chef Takashi Saito, is located at First Floor Ark Hills south Tower, 1-4-5 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. It moved to its current location in February 2014. The restaurant seats eight people. Because of the limited seating and popularity of the restaurant, reservations have been described as essential. Sushi Mizutani
Sushi Mizutani (鮨 水谷) was a famous sushi restaurant in Ginza, Chūō, Tokyo, Japan. It was owned and operated by sushi master Hachiro Mizutani. Due to his age, illness, and the planned closing of Tsukiji Market, Mizutani retired and closed the restaurant. The last day of service was October 29, 2016. Sukiyabashi Jiro
is a sushi restaurant in Ginza, Chūō, Tokyo, Japan. It is owned and operated by sushi master Jiro Ono. It was the first sushi restaurant in the world to receive three stars from the Michelin Guide, although it was removed from the Michelin Guide in November 2019 as it does not receive reservations from the general public, instead requiring reservations to be made through the concierge of a luxury hotel. Sazenka
is a Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant in Minato, Tokyo. History The restaurant opened in February 2017. Roppongi

Quintessence (restaurant)
Quintessence is a Michelin 3-star Japanese French fusion restaurant in Shinagawa, Japan. It is difficult to reserve a table in the restaurant and has been listed as among the 50 best restaurants in Asia by CNN. The head chef is Shuzo Kishida from Aichi Prefecture. Kishida worked for L'Astrance in Paris and studied French culinary arts. In 2019, food from Quintessence was featured in the Japanese TV drama ''Grand Maison Tokyo''.
