The list of Manitoba by-elections includes every provincial by-election held in the Canadian province of Manitoba. By-elections occur whenever there is a vacancy in the Legislative Assembly, although an imminent general election may allow the vacancy to remain until the dissolution of parliament. Causes A by-election occurs whenever there is a vacancy in the Manitoba Legislature. A by-election, also known as a special election in the United States and the Philippines, or a bypoll in India, is an election used to fill an office that has become vacant between general elections. A vacancy may arise as a result of an incumbent’s death or resignation, or when the incumbent becomes ineligible to continue in office (because of a recall, a prohibited dual mandate, criminal conviction, or failure to maintain a minimum attendance), or when an election is invalidated by voting irregularities. In some cases a vacancy may be filled by a method other than a by-election (such as the outgoing member's party nominating a replacement) or the office may be left vacant. Thompson (electoral District)
Thompson is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1968 from parts of Churchill and Rupertsland (now Keewatinook), and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1969. Thompson is in northern Manitoba. It is bordered by Keewatinook to the east and Flin Flon to the west. The city of Thompson, which was incorporated shortly before the riding's creation, is its only major urban centre. Almost half of the riding's residents live in that community. The riding's population in 1996 was 19,349. In 1999, the average family income was $56,402, and the unemployment rate was 12.60%. The riding's economic character is primarily working-class, with 17% of its economy coming from the mining sector. Forty-two per cent of the riding's residents are aboriginal, the third highest rate in the province. Kevin Elvis Klein is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. A member of the Progressive Conservative Party, Klein has served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba and is a former City of Winnipeg councilor. Political career Klein served as the Winnipeg City Councillor for Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood from 2018 to 2022. Klein also ran in the 2022 Winnipeg mayoral election, placing third. Scott Bradley Fielding (born ) is a former Canadian politician. A city councillor in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada from 2006 to 2014, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba in the 2016 provincial election. On September 10, 2019, Scott was re-elected as the Member of Manitoba Legislative Assembly from Kirkfield Park. Kirkfield Park is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1979, and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1981. The riding is located in the westernmost tip of the City of Winnipeg. Spruce Woods is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 2008 out of parts of Minnedosa and Turtle Mountain and notably gained parts of the City of Brandon and Arthur-Virden in the 2018 redistribution.
