A stadium ( : stadiums or stadia) is a place or venue for (mostly) outdoor sports, concerts, or other events and consists of a field or stage either partly or completely surrounded by a tiered structure designed to allow spectators to stand or sit and view the event. Most of the stadiums with a capacity of at least 10,000 are used for association football. Mzuzu
Mzuzu is the capital of Malawi's Northern Region and is the third largest city by population in Malawi. The city has 221,272 residents and 20,000 commuters ( Mzuzu University students) with about 1.7 million people in its metropolitan area. It is situated in Mzimba District. Mzuzu lies in a gap in the Viphya Mountains, and the agricultural region surrounding the city specializes in tea, rubber and coffee cultivation. The Viphya Plantation south of the city is the largest man-made forest in Africa, and the Lunyangwa and Kaning'ina forest reserves lie east of the city. Mzuzu Stadium
Mzuzu Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Mzuzu, Malawi. The stadium is mostly for football matches, on club level by Moyale Barracks FC of the Super League of Malawi and other various sport activities. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 spectators. Background The Mzuzu Stadium was built in 1970 using prison labor. The stadium has a capacity of 15,000 and is the only stadium in the city of Mzuzu built using prison labor. Incidents In August of 2023, The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) banned the Mzuzu Stadium as well as Civo Stadium of Lilongwe over the poor state of the stadiums' pitch and the bad conditions of the players’ tunnel. The FAM also banned the stadiums due to missing of technical benches and bad condition of the perimeter fence, as well as poor state of dressing rooms, including lack of public address system and poor condition of scoreboard. Karonga
Karonga is a township in the Karonga District in Northern Region of Malawi. Located on the western shore of Lake Nyasa, it was established as a slaving centre sometime before 1877. As of 2018 estimates, Karonga has a population of 61,609. History Pre-historic tools and remains of hominids discovered in Malawi's remote northern district of Karonga provides further proof that the area could be the cradle of humankind. Professor Friedemann Schrenk of the Goethe University in Frankfurt told Reuters News that two students working on the excavation site in September 2009 had discovered prehistoric tools and a tooth of a hominid. "This latest discovery of prehistoric tools and remains of hominids provides additional proof to the theory that the Great Rift Valley of Africa and perhaps the excavation site near Karonga can be considered the cradle of humankind." Karonga Stadium
Karonga Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Karonga, Malawi. It is the venue for the TNM Super League clubs Karonga United and Karonga FC. The sitting capacity of the stadium is 20,000. Incidents In 2018, the fire broke up in Karonga Stadium for unknown cause during the match of Karonga United and the Rumphi Pirates the 20,000 seat stadium was gutted by the flames. The incident happened around 4pm soon after phase two of the game. The fire started at the VIP stand and the stadium managers suspected the problem occurred due to the electrical fault. Among notable escapees were the district chairperson of Karonga, Hurry Mwanyembe among others. Lilongwe (, , ) is the capital and most populated city of the African country of Malawi. It has a population of 989,318 as of the 2018 Census, up from a population of 674,448 in 2008. In 2020 that figure was 1,122,000. Bingu National Stadium
Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe is the national stadium of Malawi. It is used for football matches and also has an athletics track. It hosts the home games of the Malawi national football team. It holds 41,100 people. It is named after former Malawian president Bingu wa Mutharika. This stadium became Ethiopian Football Federation home arena. This follows Ethiopian Football Federation request to CAF to use BNS as their national stadium is banned to host international matches for lacking minimum requirements as per the CAF Club Licensing criteria.
