Likud
Likud (, ), officially known as Likud – National Liberal Movement (), is a major Right-wing politics, right-wing, political party in Israel. It was founded in 1973 by Menachem Begin and Ariel Sharon in an alliance with several right-wing parties. Likud's landslide victory in the 1977 Israeli legislative election, 1977 elections was a major turning point in the country's political history, marking the first time the left had lost power. In addition, it was the first time in Israel that a right-wing party received the most votes. After ruling the country for most of the 1980s, the party lost the 1992 Israeli legislative election, Knesset election in 1992. Pesach Grupper
Pesah Grupper (; 21 August 1924 – 29 April 2013) was an Israeli politician who served as Minister of Agriculture between October 1983 and September 1984. Biography Grupper was born in Tel Aviv during the Mandate era. He served as head of Atlit local council between 1959 and 1962 and again from 1969 until 1971. He was elected to the Knesset on Likud's list in 1973, and retained his seat in elections in 1977. In March 1978 he proposed that a psychiatrist visit the Knesset once a week to help MKs deal with overworking and stress. The proposal was met with ridicule from other MKs. He retained his seat again in the 1981 Knesset elections. Following the elections, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Agriculture, a role he held until 1983, when he became Minister of Agriculture in Yitzhak Shamir's government. Amal Nasser El-Din
Amal Nasser el-Din (, ; 31 July 1928 – 9 February 2025) was an Israeli Druze author and politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 1977 and 1988. In 2023 he was awarded the Israel Prize for Special contribution to Society and the State. Career El-Din was born in Daliyat al-Karmel on 31 July 1928. El-Din headed the section for demobilised soldiers from 1961 and 1964 and was founder and director of the Yad LeBanim memorial project. From 1964 until 1971 he served as secretary of the Daliyat al-Karmel and Isfiya Workers Council. In 1969 his son Lutfi was killed on the last day of his national service. Originally a member of Mapai, he joined Herut in 1971. He was on the Likud list (an alliance of Herut and other right-wing parties) for the 1973 Knesset elections, but failed to win a seat. Yitzhak Moda'i
Yitzhak Moda'i (; 17 January 1926 – 14 May 1998) was an Israeli politician who served five terms in the Knesset for Likud and then the New Liberal Party over the course of a 20-year career. Biography Yitzhak Madzovitch (later Moda'i) was born in Tel Aviv during the Mandate era. He attended high school in Tel Aviv and studied at the Technion in Haifa. He went on to study law at the Tel Aviv branch of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and law and economics at the London School of Economics. His wife, Michal Har'el (née Herison), was Miss Israel, and then president of the Women's International Zionist Organization. They had three children. The eldest, Harela, was killed in a car accident when she was 22. A prize is awarded annually at the Army Radio in her name. Their son, Boaz Moda'i, is a senior diplomat in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, since October 2019 serving as Israel's ambassador to Slovakia. Eitan Livni
Yeruham "Eitan" Livni (; 1 April 1919 – 27 December 1991) was a Revisionist Zionist activist, Irgun commander and Israeli politician, father of Israeli politician Tzipi Livni. Life and career Livni was born in Grodno, Poland (now in Belarus) on 1 April 1919 to Yitzhak and Dvora. His family moved to Mandatory Palestine in 1925 and settled in Tel Aviv. He went to High School and Trade School in Tel Aviv, and in 1938, he joined the Betar movement at Zikhron Ya'akov, where he was assigned to agricultural work and guard duty. Soon after, he joined the Irgun, and a year later, he was summoned to a commanders course at Tel Tzur (near Binyamina). When the Irgun proclaimed the Jewish insurgency in Mandatory Palestine in February 1944, he was put in charge of the Irgun activities, and was later appointed to the General Headquarters as chief operations officer. Amnon Linn
Amnon Linn (; 29 March 1924 – 21 July 2016) was an Israeli politician, jurist and member of Knesset. Biography Amnon Linn was born in Mishmar HaEmek. His parents were Hava and David (Dodia) Linkovich (later Linn). He became a member of the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement in 1940, and in 1942 joined the Palmach, fighting in Haifa. During this period he was injured and dismissed. He met his wife, Ruth Hushi, daughter of Abba Hushi in 1945, and married her later that same year. He has two sons - Shai and Ran, and one daughter - Orna. After he recovered from his injury he returned to the Haganah. He studied at the officers' course at the time of the War of Independence, and later served as an officer in the Carmel unit; in this capacity, he took part in the liberation of Haifa. Tzita Linker
Zita Linker (; 1 March 1917 – 26 January 2009) was an Israeli politician who briefly served as a member of the Knesset for Likud in 1977. Biography Born in Vienna in Austria-Hungary, Linker attended high school in her home city, and university in London. She emigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1934. She joined the General Zionists, which merged into the Liberal Party in 1959. She became a member of the Board of Liberal Women, and of the party's central committee and executive council, as well as serving as a delegate to various Zionist Congresses. In 1973 she was on the Likud list (an alliance of the Liberal Party, Herut and several other right-wing parties) for the Knesset elections that year. David Levy (; 21 December 1937 – 2 June 2024) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset between 1969 and 2006. Levy's ascent to political prominence demonstrated the growing influence of Mizrahi Jews in Israel. Haim Landau (; 10 September 1916 – 16 October 1981) was an Israeli independence fighter, Knesset member and Minister in the governments of Golda Meir and Menachem Begin. Joseph Kremerman
Yosef Kremerman (; 10 January 1926 – 12 November 1981) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Herut, Gahal and Likud between 1964 and 1977. Biography Born in Haifa during the Mandate era, Kremerman was educated at a high school in Tel Aviv, before studying law, business administration and forestry. A member of the Irgun, he travelled to Europe after World War II to work as an emissary with Holocaust survivors, before returning to Israel on the Altalena. He joined the Herut party, and became chairman of its Tel Aviv branch and editor of its ''HaYom'' newspaper. He was also appointed the party's treasurer in 1957. Ben-Zion Keshet (; 5 August 1914 – 8 August 1984) was an Israeli politician. Biography Born on 5 August 1914, in Riga, Russian Empire (today in Latvia), Keshet attended a Hebrew high school in his home city. He joined the Betar youth movement and helped establish the Estonian branch in 1932. In 1934, he made aliyah to Mandatory Palestine, where he became a member of the governing council of Betar in 1935. He also became a member of Betar's enlistment battalion and of the central committee of the National Labour Federation in Eretz-Israel, on which he served between 1939 and 1942. Haim Kaufman (; 12 December 1934 – 7 August 1995) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 1977 and 1988, and again from 1990 until his death in 1995. Biography Born in Tel Aviv during the Mandate era, Leket served in the Artillery Corps during his national service in the IDF. He studied law at the School of Law and Economics in Tel Aviv, and later worked as a corporate director.
