This is a list of lesbian, gay, and bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) LGBT rights in Spain, Spaniards who have served in the Cortes Generales, Spanish Cortes Generales, the Spanish government or the regional parliaments. 37 members of the LGBT community are known to have held office in the Spanish Cortes Generales. In the Congress, 28 LGBT people held office; in the Senate, 15 held office. Five people, Jerónimo Saavedra, Miriam Blasco, Antonio Hurtado, María Freixanet, Javier Maroto, and Raúl Díaz Marín, Raúl Díaz have served in both Chambers. The earliest known LGBT congressperson was Jerónimo Saavedra, who is also the earliest known openly LGBT senator, although he was not out during his tenure as deputy. The earliest openly LGBT deputy is therefore Ernesto Gasco. A lesbian is a homosexual woman or girl. The word is also used for women in relation to their sexual identity or sexual behavior, regardless of sexual orientation, or as an adjective to characterize or associate nouns with female homosexuality or same-sex attraction. Miriam Blasco Soto (born 12 December 1963) is a professional judo competitor, who resides in Alicante, Spain. She competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain where she won the gold medal in Women's Judo in the 56 kg division. By doing so, she became Spain's first female Olympic champion and first female medalist. One of the major streets in her city of residence, Alicante, was named after her. When her professional sport career finished, she became actively involved in politics. In 2000, 2004, and 2008, she was elected to the Spanish Senate for the conservative Partido Popular. Pilar Lima
María Pilar Lima Gozálvez (born 21 November 1977) is a Spanish politician of the party Podemos. She served as a senator from 2015 to 2019 and a member of the Corts Valencianes from 2019 to 2023. She was the leader of Podemos in the Valencian Community from 2020 to 2023, resigning after an unsuccessful campaign in the 2023 Valencia City Council election.
