KK Crvena zvezda is a men's professional basketball Sports club, club based in Belgrade, Serbia. Crvena zvezda is a part of the ABA League JTD, Adriatic Basketball Association and competes in the ABA League, EuroLeague and in the Basketball League of Serbia. The Crvena zvezda squads have played in three different National Leagues since 1945, including the First Federal Basketball League, Yugoslav First Federal League (1945–1992), the YUBA League, First League of Serbia and Montenegro (1992–2006), and the Serbian League (2006 onwards). The team plays home matches in Belgrade Arena. There have been 43 head coaches in the club's history. Montenegrin coach Dejan Radonjić is the all-time leader in both official games coached and wins. Milan Tomić
Milan Tomić (, Greek: Μίλαν Τόμιτς; born 24 July 1973) is a Serbian-Greek professional basketball coach and former player. Tomić has spent almost all of his professional playing and coaching career in Greece, after he took Greek nationality, under the name of Milan Giannakopoulos ( Greek: Μίλαν Γιαννακόπουλος). FIBA Hall Of Fame
The FIBA Hall of Fame, or FIBA Basketball Hall of Fame, honors players, coaches, teams, referees, and administrators who have greatly contributed to international competitive basketball. It was established by FIBA in 1991. Svetislav "Kari" Pešić ( sr-Cyrl, Светислав "Кари" Пешић; born 28 August 1949) is a Serbian professional basketball coach who is currently the head coach of the Serbia men's national team. Playing career During his club playing career, Pešić played with Pirot (1964–1967), Partizan (1967–1971), and Bosna (1971–1979). As a member of Bosna, he won a Yugoslav Cup and a Yugoslav League championship, in 1978. Also, he won the FIBA European Champions Cup (EuroLeague) championship in 1979 with Bosna. Ranko Žeravica
Ranko Žeravica ( sr-cyr, Ранко Жеравица; 17 November 1929 – 29 October 2015) was a Serbian professional basketball coach. With a career that spanned over 50 years, he is most noted for his work with the senior Yugoslav national team, during the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s. In particular, Žeravica's single biggest achievement was guiding the country to its first ever major competition win — a gold medal on home soil, at the 1970 FIBA World Championship — leading to a huge expansion of the game of basketball throughout Yugoslavia. The 1973–74 FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup was the eighth edition of FIBA's 2nd-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition, contested between national domestic cup champions, running from October 1973, to 4 April 1974. It was contested by 25 teams, one less than in the previous edition. European Professional Club Basketball System
Professional men's basketball clubs in Europe can compete in a number of different competitions, including national leagues, regional (multi-national) leagues, and continental competitions. Aleksandar Nikolić
Aleksandar "Aca" Nikolić ( sr-cyr, Александар "Аца" Николић; 28 October 1924 – 12 March 2000) was a Serbian professional basketball player and coach. He was also a professor at the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Sport and Physical Education. He is often referred to as the Father of Yugoslav and Serbian Basketball. Nikolić acted as a mentor to many young basketball coaches in Yugoslavia, some of whom—such as Božidar Maljković, Dušan Ivković, Bogdan Tanjević, and Željko Obradović—would go on to great professional success in their own right. Nicknamed the Professor and Iron Sergeant, Nikolić was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a coach in 1998, and into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2007. The 2023–24 KK season is the 79th season in the existence of the club. For the season it is referred to as KK Meridianbet for sponsorship reasons. Overview Pre-season On 23 June 2023, former Serbian international guard Stefan Marković announced his retirement. During his career he won silver medals with Serbia from the Summer Olympics, World Cup and EuroBasket. He spent last two seasons of his career with the winning Adriatic league, two Serbian leagues and two Serbian cups. On 26 June 2023, Argentine international guard Luca Vildoza left the club after spending one season with it and winning EuroLeague MVP of the Month for the month December, Serbian league and Serbian cup.
