Arief Budiman
Arief Budiman, born Soe Hok Djin (; 3 January 1940 – 23 April 2020) was a Chinese Indonesians, Chinese Indonesian sociologist, cultural critic, and social activist. Biography Budiman was born Soe Hok Djin on 3 January, 1940. His father, Soe Lie Piet, was a writer and magazine editor, and his younger brother Soe Hok Gie was a social activist. He graduated from Kolese Kanisius, a Jesuit high school, and then Universitas Indonesia where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1968. In 1980, he earned his Ph.D. in sociology from Harvard University, United States. He was a lecturer at the Satya Wacana Christian University, Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana, Salatiga, Indonesia until 1996. From 1997 for about 10 years, he was a professor of Indonesian studies in University of Melbourne, Australia. He was a vocal critic of Indonesian politics. Kartika Affandi-Koberl
Kartika Affandi-Koberl (born 27 November 1934), is an Indonesian artist born into a family of artists. Biography Kartika Affandi was born in Batavia, Dutch East Indies (present-day Jakarta, Indonesia) in 1934, the only child of artists Affandi and Maryati. Kartika in 1952 married R.M. Saptohoedojo, a painter. She has eight children. Kartika's relationship with her husband was strained by his polygamy and also his stinginess with the paint they shared, and they divorced in 1972. In 1985, she married Austrian Gerhard Koberl, a yoga and meditation teacher. They separated in 1994 and divorced in 2001. Artistic career From the age of seven, Kartika was instructed by Affandi in how to paint with fingers and tubes directly on the canvas. Any mixing of colours is done on her hands and wrists. Bing Slamet
Ahmad Syech Albar (27 September 1927 – 17 December 1974), better known by his stage name Bing Slamet, was an Indonesian singer, songwriter, comedian, and actor. During his career, he acted in 17 films and released "dozens" of albums. Shortly before his death, he received a lifetime achievement award from the Governor of Jakarta. Three of his songs were chosen by ''Rolling Stone Indonesia'' as some of the best Indonesian songs of all time. Andreas Leo Ateng Suripto (8 August 19426 May 2003), better known as Ateng and also known by the Chinese name Kho Tjeng Lie (邱诚烈), was a popular Indonesian actor and comedian. Biography Ateng was born on 8 August 1942 in Semplak, Bogor, Japanese-occupied East Indies (present-day Indonesia). His father was a merchant. He was the second child of nine children. Asrul Sani (10 June 1926 – 11 January 2004) was an Indonesian writer, poet and screenwriter. Biography Sani was born in Rao, West Sumatra on 10 June 1926. His father was Sultan Marah Sani Syair Alamsyah. Together with Chairil Anwar and Rivai Apin, Sani published ''Tiga Menguak Takdir'' in 1950. In the 1950s, together with Usmar Ismail, he founded Akademi Teater Nasional Indonesia (Indonesia National Theater Academy). Gusmiati Suid
Gusmiati Suid (1942–2001) was an Indonesian dancer and choreographer who specialized in traditional Sumatran, Malay and Minang dances. She studied and later taught dance at the ASKI Performing Arts Academy in Padang Panjang. In 1984, she decided to become a professional choreographer, devoting her efforts to the Gumarang Sakti Dance Company which she had created in 1982. Gusmiati toured widely with the company in the late 1980s and the 1990s, visiting India, France, Germany, the United States, Canada and New Zealand.
