Ana Kordzaia-Samadashvili
Ana Kordzaia-Samadashvili ( ka, ანა კორძაია-სამადაშვილი) (born February 26, 1968) is a Georgian writer and literary journalist who authored some of the best-selling prose of post-Soviet Georgian literature. Biography Ana Kordzaia-Samadashvili was born in 1968 and lives in Tbilisi. She is a writer, translator and literary journalist. She has won many Georgian literary prizes including the Saba Prize, the IliaUni Literary Prize and the Goethe Institute Award. Ekaterine Togonidze ( ka, ეკატერინე ტოგონიძე, born March 16, 1981) is a Georgian journalist and writer, and activist for the rights of the disabled. Biography Ekaterine Togonidze was born on March 16, 1981, in Tbilisi, Georgia. Nino Tkeshelashvili
Nino Tkeshelashvili ( ka, ნინო ტყეშელაშვილი, 1874–1956) was a Georgian teacher, writer and women's rights activist. Born into an intellectual family in 1874, she completed the schooling available to her in Tiflis and then worked for a time in Didi Jikhaishi as a Russian language teacher. In 1903, she went to study dentistry in Moscow, where she became involved in the revolutionary student movement during the 1905 Russian Revolution. Returning to Tiflis the following year, she began to meet women writers and activists participating in the struggle for women's rights. She joined the Union of Georgian Women for Equal Rights in 1906, but three years later left the organization and co-founded the Caucasian Women's Society with a breakaway group of feminists. Irma Shiolashvili
Irma Shiolashvili, or Irma Shiolashvili-Britze (; ka, ირმა შიოლაშვილი; born 29 March 1974 in Dedoplistsqaro) is a Georgian poet, translator and journalist. Biography Irma Shiolashvili was born in 1974 in Dedoplistsqaro, Georgia. She studied journalism at Tbilisi State University and later at University of Bonn, Germany. During her studies in Tbilisi she worked in the cultural department of the National Georgian Television, where she produced TV programs about contemporary Georgian writers. In 1995, she became one of the youngest members of the Georgian Writers' Union. In 1999, Shiolashvili moved to Germany, where, in 2005, she defended PhD thesis on German and Georgian political postwar poetry. In 2007, she was admitted to the European Writers' Association 'The Kogge'. Nino Salia
Nino Salia née Kurtsikashvili ( ka, ნინო სალია-ქურციკაშვილისა) (October 15, 1898 – 1992) was a Georgian émigré historian and philologist active in France, and the wife of the historian Kalistrat Salia. Born in Kakheti, eastern Georgia, she was educated at Tbilisi and St. Petersburg. During World War I, she served as a nurse. After the Soviet takeover of Georgia, she lived in France where she, together with her husband, edited the journal ''Bedi Kartlisa'' dedicated to the Kartvelian studies. Salia published several works on the history and culture of Georgia, and coauthored "Georgia" (Historical-Cultural Review) along with K. Salia and V. Beridze. Later in her life, she presented her unique library to the Institute of Manuscripts of Georgia. Tamri Pkhakadze
Tamri Pkhakadze (; ka, თამრი ფხაკაძე; born 28 July 1957) is a Georgian writer, playwright, children's author and translator. Biography Tamri Pkhakadze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. She graduated from Tbilisi State University in 1979 as a philologist. She has a PhD in philology. 1980-2006 she worked in the Old Georgian Literature department at the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature. In 2011 she has been working for the publishing house "Triasi" as editor in chief. She has published novels, collections of prose, plays and children’s books. Several children’s songs have been composed to her verses. Iza Orjonikidze
Iza Orjonikidze ( ka, იზა ორჯონიკიძე) (21 November 1938 – 9 February 2010) was a Georgian poet and literary scholar who was also member of the Parliament of Georgia from 1992 to 1995. Born in Tbilisi, the capital of then-Soviet Georgia, Orjonikidze graduated from the Moscow State University with a degree in philology in 1965. In 1976, she was appointed the director of Leonidze Museum of Georgian Literature, a position she held until 1982 and again from 1989 to 1990 and from 1991 to 2010. In 1989, Orjonikidze was a member of the special commission investigating the actions of the Soviet military against the pro-independence demonstrations in Georgia on 9 April 1989. After Georgia’s independence from the Soviet Union, she was elected to the parliament for Tbilisi's Saburtalo district from 1992 to 1995. Elizabeth Orbeliani
Princess Elizabeth Orbeliani ( ka, ელისაბედ ორბელიანი; b. 1871 - d. 1942) was a Georgian poet, translator, and philanthropist, who worked on improving the rights of women. She was the first ever woman to teach at the Tbilisi State University, of which she is considered a co-founder. Orbeliani was once the lady of the Orbeliani Palace, which currently serves as home to the President of Georgia. To this day, there is a room in the palace dedicated to her memory and it is used to receive foreign dignitaries. Kato Mikeladze
Ekaterine "Kato" Mikeladze (1878–1942) was a Georgian journalist and feminist who from 1916 fought for women's rights. In order to encourage women to become politically active, she established The Inter-Partial League of Women backed by ''The Voice of Georgian Women'', a newspaper she founded and edited, publishing articles on social and political issues. Thanks to her efforts, in 1919 five women were among the elected members of Georgia's parliament following the country's first democratic election. Biography Born in 1878 in Kutaisi, Mikeladze completed her school education at the city's St. Nino School. Ekaterine Melikishvili
Ekaterine (Keke) Melikishvili, married name Meskhi (1854–1928), was a Georgian writer, translator and feminist. Brought up in a well-to-do home in Tbilisi, after matriculating from a Swiss high school, she became one of the first Georgian women to attend university in Switzerland, studying medicine in Zürich. While there, she became fluent in German and French, followed the innovative developments of the times as well as the evolving situation in Georgia. She was one of several women writers to join the Georgian ''Ugheli'' association, together with Kato Mikeladze, Olga Guramishvili, Pelagia Natsvlishvili and Bogumila Zeminskaya. Melikishvili was the first dean of Odessa University where she created courses for women.
