Shlomo Halberstam (first Bobover Rebbe)
Rabbi Shlomo Halberstam (, ; 1847 –1905) was a community rabbi and a Hasidic Rebbe, founder of the Hasidic dynasty of Bobov (Hasidic dynasty), Bobov. He was the son of Rabbi Myer Noson Halberstam (1827-1855). Rabbi Shlomo was a grandson of the ''Chaim Halberstam, Divrei Chaim'' of Sanz (Hasidic dynasty), Sanz (1793-1876), a Hasidic Judaism, Hasidic sage of the 19th century whose influence established the groundwork for many other Galicia (Central Europe), Galician Hasidic movements. Halberstam became an orphan at age eight, and lived with his grandfather, the ''Divrei Chaim'', for most of his early life. He married the daughter of Rabbi Yehoshua of Kamianka-Buzka, Kaminka. In later life he remarried; his second wife was the daughter of Rabbi Menashe of Drohobycz. Malka Rokeach
Malka Rokeach () (1780-1850 CE) was the first ''rebbetzin'' of the Hasidic dynasty of Belz. She was the wife of Rabbi Sholom Rokeach, the first ''rebbe'' of Belz, and the mother of the second ''rebbe'' of the dynasty, Rabbi Yehoshua Rokeach. She was directly involved in the ongoings in her husband's court. Life She was born in 1780 to Rabbi Yissachar Dov Ramraz of Sokal, Galicia and Rebbetzin Chana Rachel (née Tisminitzer), a great-granddaughter of Rabbi Zechariah Mendel ben Aryeh Leib of Cracow, author of '' Ba'er Hetev'' on ''Yoreh De'ah'' and ''Choshen Mishpat''. Aharon Rokeach
Aharon Rokeach (; 19 December 1880Israel, Yosef (2005). "Rescuing the Rebbe of Belz". NY:Mesorah Publications, Ltd. . – 18 August 1957) was the fourth Rebbe of the Belz Hasidic dynasty. He led the movement from 1926 until he died in 1957. Rokeach inherited the mantle of leadership from his father, Yissachar Dov Rokeach, upon the latter's death in 1926. Known for his piety and mysticism, Rokeach was called the "Wonder Rabbi" by Jews and Gentiles alike for the miracles he purportedly performed. His reign as Rebbe saw the devastation of the Belz community, along with that of many other Hasidic sects in Galicia and elsewhere in Poland during the Holocaust. He was the second son of Rabbi Yehoshua Rokeach (the second Rebbe of Belz), and served as the third Belzer Rebbe from his father's death in 1894 until his own death in 1926. Personal life Yissachar Dov was born in the town of Belz, Galicia. His grandfather, Rabbi Sholom Rokeach, the founder of the Belz dynasty, named him after his own father-in-law, Rabbi Yissachar Dov Ramraz, the ''av beit din'' of Sokal. Yehoshua Rokeach
Rabbi Yehoshua Rokeach (1825 – February 3, 1894), known as the ''Mitteler Ruv'', was the second Rebbe of the Belz Hasidic dynasty. He combined Torah scholarship with practical common sense to guide thousands of Hasidim and to fight the Haskalah ("Enlightenment") movement that was making inroads in Jewish communities in Poland during the nineteenth century. His pioneering activities included founding the Machzikei Hadas organization. Belz (Hasidic Dynasty)
Belz () is a Hasidic Judaism, Hasidic List of Hasidic dynasties, dynasty founded in the town of Belz in Western Ukraine, near the Poland, Polish border, historically the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland. The group was founded in the early 19th century by Rabbi Shalom Rokeach, also known as the ''Sar Shalom'', and led by his son, Rabbi Yehoshua Rokeach, and grandson, Rabbi Yissachar Dov Rokeach (third Belzer rebbe), Yissachar Dov, and great-grandson, Rabbi Aharon Rokeach, Aharon, before the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939. Sholom Rokeach (1781 – September 10, 1855), also known as the ''Sar Sholom'' (, "Angel of Peace"), was the first rebbe (hereditary hasidic leader) of the Belz dynasty . Belzer Hasidim call him "Der Ershter Rov" (the first rabbi); in the city of Belz itself he was called "Der Alter Rov" (the old rabbi) in deference to Yoel Sirkis, who presided as rabbi of Belz in the sixteenth century. Samuel Judah Löb Rapoport
Solomon Judah Loeb Rapoport (; June 1, 1786 – October 15, 1867) was a Galician and Czech rabbi and Jewish scholar. Rapoport was known by an acronym "Shir", שי"ר occasionally שיל"ר, formed by the initial letters of his Hebrew name "Sh"elomo "Y"ehuda "R"apoport. Shir literally means "song" in Hebrew. He was one of the founders of the new Wissenschaft des Judentums movement. Life Solomon Judah Loeb Rapoport was born in Lemberg, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria. His father, Rabbi Aharon Hayim Rappaport was a renowned scholar, and his primary teacher. Rappaport was also recognized as an '' illui''. Roza Pomerantz-Meltzer (Polish: Róża Pomeranc-Melcer; November 5, 1880 – October 19, 1934)died at age 55, Oct. 20, 1934, American Jewish Yearbook, By American Jewish Committee, Jewish Publication Society of America, 1935, p. 270 was a Polish writer and novelist based in the city of Lviv. Rabbi Hirschel Ben Arye Löb Levin (also known as Hart Lyon and Hirshel Löbel; 1721 – 26 August 1800) was Chief Rabbi of Great Britain and of Berlin, and Rabbi of Halberstadt and Mannheim, known as a scholarly Talmudist.
