The Collingwood Football Club, nicknamed the Magpies or colloquially the Pies, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Melbourne, Victoria that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's elite competition. Ron Todd (footballer)
Ronald Walford Todd (23 October 1916 – 8 February 1991) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and the Williamstown Football Club in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). Renowned for his high marking and goalkicking ability, Todd was considered as the logical successor to the legendary Gordon Coventry, but his controversial move to Williamstown, along with teammate and friend Des Fothergill, caused much bitterness at Collingwood for many years afterward. He holds the record for the most goals kicked in a VFA season (188), and his 23 goals in the 1939 VFL finals series stood as a record until it was broken by Gary Ablett Sr. in 1989. Kevin Pay (1 November 1939 – 29 June 2020) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Pay kicked all of his 31 career goals, playing as a full-forward, in the 1961 VFL season and the tally was enough to top Collingwood's goal-kicking. Murray Weideman
Murray Weideman (16 February 1936 – 17 February 2021) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He died one day after his 85th birthday. Personal life The son of George Oliver and Hazel Howard Weideman (née Start), and the younger brother of pharmacist/parliamentarian George "Graeme" Weideman, he was born on 16 February 1936. He died on 18 February 2021. Weideman's son Mark Weideman also played for West Adelaide (SANFL) and Collingwood; and his grandson, Sam Weideman, plays for Essendon. Ian Brewer
Ian Davidson Brewer (15 June 1936 – 15 April 2010) was an Australian rules footballer with a distinguished career between 1956 and 1970, in the three major leagues of his era: the Victorian Football League (VFL), West Australian National Football League (WANFL) and South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Brewer played a combined total of 171 senior games for Collingwood, Claremont and Norwood. A key forward from Sale, Brewer played with Collingwood from 1956 to 1961. He kicked 73 goals in 1958, which earned him the Coleman Medal. This tally included six goals in the Queen's Birthday clash against Melbourne, in front of a record crowd of 99,346. Ken Smale
Ken Smale (born 5 November 1933) is a former Australian rules footballer, who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Born in Warrnacknabeal Smale played as a forward for the town team and he won the Wimmera Football League goalkicking award in 1952 and 1953. Keen to have a go in the VFL he wrote to Collingwood asking for a try out. He spent the Easter Saturday in Melbourne with a six-game permit in case he was wanted. Keith Bromage
Keith Bromage (8 November 1937 – 26 June 2024) was an Australian rules footballer. He played with Collingwood and Fitzroy in his Victorian Football League (VFL) career. When he debuted against Richmond in 1953 at 15 years and 287 days of age, he was thought to be the youngest debutant in the history of the game. However, in 2012 it was discovered that Claude Clough was aged 15 years and 209 days when he made his debut for in May 1900. Bob Rose (footballer)
Robert Arthur Rose (7 August 1928 – 7 July 2003) was an Australian rules footballer and coach in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever to play for Collingwood. With 282 games coached, Rose is fourth on the all-time AFL/VFL list of most games coached without a premiership, behind Rodney Eade (377), Ross Lyon (354) and John Northey (315). Playing career Recruited from country club Nyah West, Rose debuted in 1946. He was a genuine all-round sportsman, who was looking down the path of a professional boxing career, but decided to play the game of football. Maurie Dunstan
Maurie "Mocha" Dunstan (25 March 1929 – 17 May 1991) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Dunstan had been on Collingwood's radar since his late teens but was only convinced by the club to join them after spending two seasons with Preston in the Victorian Football Association. During his early career at Collingwood, the young centre half-forward was also serving an apprenticeship in an engineering unit of the Australian Army. Although he missed the first four rounds of the 1951 VFL season, Dunstan topped Collingwood's goal-kicking with 40 goals, including a bag of eight against Hawthorn at Glenferrie Oval. Jack Pimm
John Huggett Pimm, (7 October 1920 – 27 February 2016) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Pimm grew up in what was then a Collingwood recruitment zone, around Wattle Glen, Victoria. He attended Melbourne High School and watched Collingwood training sessions from an early age. Pimm, a centre half-forward, played five senior games as well as games in the seconds for Collingwood in the 1940 VFL season but did not play again until 1946, the lengthy interruption being due to his World War II military service. Pimm saw active military service in the Australian Army achieving the rank of Lieutenant, serving mostly with the 15th Australian Infantry Brigade, primarily as a member of the 58th/59th Battalion and also with the 57th/60th Battalion.
