William Winter Stuckey (27 July 1873 – 21 September 1928) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Jack Gardiner
John Carlton Gardiner (8 May 1881 – 3 April 1967) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He then became a successful coach in the Tasmanian Football League. Family The son of John Gardiner, and Anna Gardiner, née Sidley, John Carlton Gardiner was born on 8 May 1881. Jack Gardiner was the third of four children in the family, with two older sisters and a younger brother, Vin Gardiner. He married Florence Bucirde (1883–1946), in Hobart, on 20 November 1911. Jack Gardiner died in Hobart in 1967, and is buried at Cornelian Bay Cemetery. Football Gardiner came from a football playing family with his father, John, a Carlton player during the 1870s. Jack Wells (footballer)
John "Jack" Wells (4 January 1883 – 17 December 1966) was an Australian rules footballer who played for and in the Western Australian Football Association (WAFA), Kalgoorlie City in the Goldfields Football Association (GFA), St Kilda and Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL), and in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). Career Born in Stawell, Victoria, to William Wells and Jane Mary Reid, Wells played his early football in Western Australia where he spent time in both Kalgoolie and Perth. Originally playing for Rovers, he switched to Perth after the club folded midway through the 1898 season. He represented the Perth Football Club in their inaugural WAFA season and topped their goal kicking in 1904. Norman Childers "Hackenschmidt" Clark (12 November 1878 – 26 December 1943) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1905 and 1912. Family The son of Edward John Clark, and Margaret Clark, née Cooper, Norman Childers Clark was born on 12 November 1878. He married Eileen Florence Fleming (1888–1983) on 11 June 1918. They had two children: Norman Adrian Clark (1919–1998), and Bryan Childers Clark (1923–2003). Football Prior to joining Carlton, he had played in two premiership teams at North Adelaide. A talented sprinter, in 1899 he won the 130-yard Stawell Gift in eleven and four-fifths seconds, off a handicap of 14 and a half yards. George Topping
George Thomas Dungate Topping (27 August 1881 – 17 November 1958) was an Australian rules footballer and umpire in the Victorian Football League. Playing career Originally recruited from Carlton Juniors, Topping made his debut for the Carlton Football Club in Round 10 of the 1902 season. Playing mainly in the forward line, he was a good marker and accurate kicker with a good sense of where to go to get the ball. His firepower was vital in Carlton's hat-trick of premierships from 1906 to 1908, with totals of 25, 26, and 16 goals in those respective seasons. The following year, the Blues were just beaten by South Melbourne in the grand final, but Topping had his best scoring year with a total of 36 goals and playing in every match. Fred Elliott (footballer)
Frederick Clifford "Pompey" Elliott (7 April 1879 – 3 August 1960) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Fred was the first VFL player to reach 200 games and was elected to the Carlton Hall of Fame in 1988. Family Fred was born in Carlton with the name Frederick Clifford Saggers to William Constantine Saggers (1824-1880) and Florence Mary Woodliffe Willcox (1857-1929), who had married in 1876. He was only a few months old when his 56 year old father died. Fred's mother was only 23 years old at the time and quickly re-married. The new husband's name was Frederick Giddons Anson Elliott (1859-1920). Baby Fred was given his stepfather's surname. Frank Caine (28 July 1881 – 19 January 1930) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League. Football Caine made his debut for the Carlton Football Club The Carlton Football Club, nicknamed the Blues, is a professional Australian rules football club that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's top professional competition. In a huge coup for North Melbourne, Caine was poached from Carlton in early 1910 along with ‘Mallee’ Johnson, Fred Jinks, and Charlie Hammond. Jim Flynn (footballer)
James Edward Flynn (21 March 1871 – 24 August 1955) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong and Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A ruckman, after two brief VFA stints, the Benalla-born Flynn started his career in earnest in 1897 where he was part of Geelong's inaugural VFL side. Flynn stayed with the club until the end of the 1902 season when he crossed to Carlton. He was made Carlton captain in 1905, and in 1906 led them to the premiership, defeating Fitzroy in the Grand Final. Due to business commitments in St James, running the local hotel (pub) which still operates today (37 kilometres north of Benalla), he retired from football; however, he returned for the 1907 finals series after captain Fred Elliott was suspended. Michael John Grace (24 July 187421 May 1912) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club, Carlton Football Club and St Kilda Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Thomas Grace, and Julia Grace, née O'Callaghan, Michael John Grace was born in Burnley, Victoria on 24 July 1874. He was the brother of Fitzroy footballers Jim Grace and Joe Grace. He married Martha Drew in 1903. Football Mick Grace was a follower/forward who started his career at the top level in the VFA in 1895 with Fitzroy, joining his older brother Jim. Grace was part of Fitzroy's premiership team in that season (although no Grand Final was played in the VFA at the time).
