Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres are a professional ice hockey team based in Buffalo, New York. The Sabres compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Atlantic Division (NHL), Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference. The team was established in 1970–71 NHL season, 1970, along with the Vancouver Canucks, when the league expanded to 14 teams. The Sabres have played their home games at KeyBank Center since 1996–97 Buffalo Sabres season, 1996, having previously played at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium since their inception. The Sabres are owned by Terrence Pegula, Terry Pegula, who purchased the club in 2011 from Tom Golisano. MSG Network
The MSG Network (MSG) is an American regional cable and satellite television network, and radio service owned by MSG Entertainment, Inc.—a spin-off of the main Madison Square Garden Company operation (itself a spin-off of local cable provider Cablevision). Primarily serving the Mid-Atlantic United States, its programming focuses on events featuring and other programs about New York City sports teams, including live game broadcasts of the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association, the New York Rangers, New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League, and the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer. 2009–10 Buffalo Sabres Season
The 2009–10 Buffalo Sabres season was the 40th season (39th season of play) of the Buffalo Sabres in the National Hockey League. The season saw the Sabres win the Northeast Division title and return to the playoffs for the first time in three seasons. Ryan Miller won the Vezina Trophy for the first time in his career. The Vezina win was the League-best eight for the Sabres franchise since 1982, when the trophy began being awarded to the NHL's top goaltender. Tyler Myers became the first Sabre to win the Calder Memorial Trophy, for Rookie of the Year, since Tom Barasso won it in the 1983–84 season. Danny Gare
Daniel Mirl Gare (born May 14, 1954) is a Canadian broadcaster, ice hockey coach and former National Hockey League (NHL) player, most notably of the Buffalo Sabres. During a 13-year professional career, Gare also played for the Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers. He was a two-time All-Star right winger who twice scored 50 goals in a season for the Sabres. He was known for his quick wrist shot and status as a small, yet scrappy and fearless player. Playing career Gare played for the WCJHL's Calgary Centennials from 1971 to 1974. In his final season with the team, he had 127 points. Gare was selected by the Buffalo Sabres with the 29th pick of the 1974 NHL amateur draft. Gare, who wore #18, scored his first career NHL goal just 18 seconds into his first regular season game helping the Sabres defeat the Boston Bruins, 9-5, on October 10, 1974. Kevin Sylvester (American Broadcaster)
Kevin Sylvester (born c.1973) is an American sports media personality, currently employed as a radio broadcaster for the PGA Tour. Sylvester had an 11-year association with the Buffalo Sabres. He succeeded Josh Mora as the Sabres' studio host during the 2005–06 Buffalo Sabres season, and was the alternate play-by-play broadcaster during the 2011–12 season, handling the majority of the club's road games. His partner in the broadcast booth was veteran broadcaster Danny Gare, whose number has been retired by the Sabres. Since the 2008–09 season, he has been a substitute announcer for longtime play-by-play man Rick Jeanneret, who has called the team's games since the 1971–72 season. On June 18, 2012, Sylvester's new show, ''Sabres Hockey Hotline'', debuted from the Sabres Store inside the First Niagara Center. Harry Neale
Harold Watson Neale (born March 9, 1937) is a Canadian retired NCAA, NHL and WHA coach and general manager, and ice hockey broadcaster. Coaching career Following his playing career, Neale got his head coaching start at Hill Park Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario, where he also taught social studies and physical education. In 1966, he replaced Glen Sonmor at Ohio State University. While at Ohio State, he was a physical fitness trainer for the Ohio State football team. He coached the Buckeyes for four seasons compiling a 49-48-3 record. He left Ohio State in 1970 to coach junior hockey in Hamilton. Neale was hired as assistant coach of the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the WHA in 1972. He replaced Sonmor again as head coach late in the 1972–73 season. He remained head coach until the Fighting Saints franchise folded during the 1975–76 season. 2012–13 Buffalo Sabres Season
The 2012–13 Buffalo Sabres season was the 43rd season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that was established on May 22, 1970. The regular season was reduced from its usual 82 games to 48 due to a lockout. The season was the 15th and final season coached by Lindy Ruff, who was fired after a 6–10–1 start. The Sabres failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the second consecutive season. Off-season Broadcast changes On June 8, 2012, the Sabres announced that Rick Jeanneret, the longest-tenured play-by-play announcer in NHL history, would be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame; Jeanneret will also receive the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award.
