Baul or Bauls ( bn, বাউল) are a group of mystic minstrels from Bengal, which includes the country of Bangladesh and the Indian State of West Bengal. Basudeb Das Baul is a Bengali baul singer and musician from Bolpur in Birbhum district, West Bengal, India; who also plays khamak, ektara, and dotara as an accompaniment. He is known for pioneering traditional Baul music on the international music scene. He also works on the music score for the Australian film ''The Waiting City'' as a featured soloist in 2009. Baul Shah Abdul Karim ( bn, শাহ আবদুল করিম; 15 February 1916 — 12 September 2009) was a Bangladeshi Baul musician. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2001 by the Government of Bangladesh. Sufia Khatun (known as Kangalini Sufia; born 01 January 1961) is a Bangladeshi folk singer. Her real name is ''"Anita Halder"''. She performed as a playback singer for the films ''Darodi Shatru'', ''Agun'' and ''Raj Shinghashon''. Early life Sufia was born in 1948/49 in greater Faridpur to Khokon Halder and Tulu Halder. Deebo Bhattacharya, also known as Debu Bhattacherjee, was a Pakistani-Bangladeshi musician, painter and singer who worked in Lollywood movies during the era of 1960s and 1970s. He was one of the well known composers in Bangladesh as well. 'Bapi' Das Baul is an 8th generation Baul performer of Bengali mystical folk music.
