The Bangladeshi Cinema, better known as Dhallywood ( bn, ঢালিউড), is the Bengali-language film industry based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It has often been a significant film industry since the early 1970s. The dominant style of Bangladeshi cinema is melodramatic cinema, which developed from 1947 to 1990 and characterizes most films to this day. Cinema was introduced in Bangladesh in 1898 by the Bradford Bioscope Company, credited to have arranged the first film release in Bangladesh. Between 1913 and 1914, the first production company, Picture House, was opened. A 1928 short silent film titled ''Sukumari'' () was the first Bengali-produced film in the region. The first full-length film, ''The Last Kiss'', was released in 1931. Following the separation of Bangladesh from Pakistan, Dhaka became the center of the Bangladeshi film industry, and has generated the majority share of revenue, production and audiences for Dhallywood films. Ahmed Reza Rubel (born 1965) is a Bangladeshi theatre, movie and television actor. He started his career in Selim Al Deen's theatre group "Dhaka Theatre". Later he concentrated into mainstream commercial movies and starred in 6 movies. Then he left the film industry to work in tele-dramas. Career Rubel started his career working for "Dhaka Theatre", a theatre group of Selim Al Deen. Then he moved to act in commercial Bengali movies. He starred in the movie ''Aakhri Hamla'' and played in a negative role in his subsequent movie. He came back to theatre again to work in ''Bonopangshul'', a theatrical drama. Abu Taher Mohammad Shamsuzzaman ( bn, আবু তাহের মোহাম্মদ শামসুজ্জ়ামান; 10 September 1941 – 20 February 2021), better known as known as ATM Shamsuzzaman, was a Bangladeshi film and television actor, director and screen-playwright. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2015 by the Government of Bangladesh. He won Bangladesh National Film Awards five times for his roles in ''Dayee Ke?'' Mamunur Rashid (born 29 February 1948) is a Bangladeshi actor, director and scriptwriter. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2012 and Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1982 by the Government of Bangladesh. Early life and education Rashid was born on 29 February 1948 in the village Bhabandatta under Ghatail Upazila in Tangail District. He is the eldest of five siblings. He completed his SSC from Bolla Coronation High School. Career Rashid moved to Dhaka in 1963. Rashid started writing drama plays in the 1960s. He founded Aranyak in 1972. Asaduzzaman Mohammad Raisul Islam (known as Raisul Islam Asad; born 15 July 1953) is a Bangladeshi freedom fighter and an actor in radio, theatre, television and film.
