The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is a seasonal basketball league established in 2019 and first held in 2021. The league is open to national champions of FIBA Africa member countries. The finals of each season are played in a single-game format, which is held at an arena that is chosen by the BAL organisation. The data below does not include the FIBA Africa Club Champions Cup, the predecessor of the BAL that was held from 1972 to 2019. Basketball Africa League
The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is Africa's premier men's basketball league. The league consists of twelve teams, each qualified through their domestic competition, similar to the format of the UEFA Champions League. The league is a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) with sponsorship from Nike, Air Jordan and Pepsi. Its inaugural season started with the qualifying rounds in October 2019 and the regular season in May 2021. The competition replaces FIBA's Africa Basketball League as the continent's top-tier league. BAL president, Amadou Gallo Fall, announced at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game Africa Luncheon in Chicago, that the season will tip off on 13 March. Miodrag Perišić ( sr-cyr, Миодраг Перишић; born 28 August 1972) is a Serbian professional basketball coach, who currently serves as the head coach of Al Ittihad Alexandria of the Egyptian Basketball Super League (EBSL). The Egyptian Basketball Federation is the governing body of the sport of basketball in Egypt. It joined International Basketball Federation FIBA in 1934. Ivan Jeremić ( sr-cyr, Иван Јеремић; born 21 August 1961) is a Serbian professional basketball coach for Al Ahly Ly of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He has coached several teams in Serbia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Russia, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, among others. 2024 BAL Season
The 2024 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 4, will be the 4th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season will begin in March 2024 and will finish with the playoffs and finals in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, for a fourth consecutive season. The league was expanded to 48 games, including four venues, as South Africa will host the inaugural Kalahari Conference. Al Ahly are the defending champions, having won the previous edition. Venues On 19 June 2023, the BAL and the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) announced they agreed on a multi-year extension to their collaboration. Under the extension, it was agreed that the BK Arena in Kigali will host the playoffs and finals in the 2024, 2026 and 2028 seasons. The 2023 BAL Final was the championship game of the 2023 BAL season, the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), and concluded the playoffs. The final was played on 27 May 2023 in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, for a third year in a row. The final was contested by Egyptian club Al Ahly and Senegalese club AS Douanes. Al Ahly won its first title after defeating AS Douanes 80–65 for their first BAL title and their second continental championship, following the FIBA Africa Club Champions Cup in 2016.
