Assamese Language
Assamese (), also Asamiya ( ), is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in the north-east Indian state of Assam, where it is an official language, and it serves as a ''lingua franca'' of the wider region. The easternmost Indo-Iranian language, it has over 23 million speakers. Nefamese, an Assamese-based pidgin, is used in Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagamese, an Assamese-based Creole language, is widely used in Nagaland. The Kamtapuri language of Rangpur division of Bangladesh and the Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri districts of India are linguistically closer to Assamese, though the speakers identify with the Bengali culture and the literary language. In the past, it was the court language of the Ahom kingdom from the 17th century. Along with other Eastern Indo-Aryan languages, Assamese evolved at least before the 7th century CE from the middle Indo-Aryan Magadhi Prakrit. ''III Smoking Barrels'' is a 2017 Indian drama film written and directed by Sanjib Dey and produced by Amit Malpani under his banner Malpani Talkies. The film is an anthology of three stories exploring three socio-political issues encompassing Northeast India. The film also seamlessly uses six spoken languages which is considered a unique feat in Indian cinema history. ''III Smoking Barrels'' premiered at the 2017 Durban International Film Festival, followed by its European premiere at the 2017 International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg where it was screened in the International Competition section. The film premiered in India at the 22nd International Film Festival of Kerala. It won the Silver Palm Award at 2018 Mexico International Film Festival for Best Narrative Feature. Biswajeet Bora (born 8 August 1979) is an Indian filmmaker, producer writer & editor and one of the renowned filmmakers from Northeast India, now based in Mumbai. Moirangthem Maniram Singha (born 1970) is an Indian film maker, director, producer and scriptwriter of Assamese and Manipuri cinema. Born in Manipur, he is currently living in North Lakhimpur district of Assam. Family background His father Bolbihari who hailed from a village called Phumlou, near Mayang Langjing in Manipur came to Assam at the age of 14. He enrolled himself in a training programme in tailoring trade from ITI, Jorhat. After the completion of the course, he set up a tailoring shop next to a cinema hall in Tinsukia. Jatin Bora
Jatin Bora (born 25 April 1970) is an Indian actor and director who has appeared in Assamese language films since 1989. He is also an actor and director in some mobile theatre groups of Assam, including Aabahan, Hengool, Ashirbaad, Bhagyadevi, Kohinoor, Itihas and Surjya. Early life Jatin Bora was born to Sri Gakul Chandra Bora and Premolata Bora, in Kacholukhowa village, Nagaon, Assam. He did his primary schooling in Marikalang Prathamik Vidyalaya. Baharul Islam is an Indian theater actor. An alumnus of the National School of Drama, which he had joined in 1987 Baharul has acted in more than 80 plays, designed and directed 30 plays for his theater troupe Seagull.
