Archibald Prize
The Archibald Prize is an Australian portraiture art prize for painting, generally seen as the most prestigious portrait prize in Australia. It was first awarded in 1921 after the receipt of a bequest from J. F. Archibald, J. F. Archibald, the editor of ''The Bulletin (Australian periodical), The Bulletin'' who died in 1919. It is administered by the trustees of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and awarded for "the best portrait, preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in Art, Letters, Science or Politics, painted by an artist resident in Australia during the twelve months preceding the date fixed by the trustees for sending in the pictures". The Archibald Prize has been awarded annually since 1921 (with two exceptions) and since July 2015 the prize has been Australian dollar, AU$100,000. McLean Edwards
McLean Edwards is an Australian painter and portraitist. In 2019 he was awarded the 2019 Sir John Sulman Prize. Early life and education McLean Edwards was born in 1972 in Darwin, Northern Territoryto Gregson Edwards and Maria Bredun. McLean Edwards attended the Canberra School of Art. Career Edwards' first solo exhibition was in Sydney in 1995; he has since had over 20 solo exhibitions. His form of portraiture is known as "emotional larceny". Recognition and awards Edwards was an Archibald Prize finalist in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, and 2013. He was a Doug Moran National Portrait Prize finalist in 2014. Bob Carr
Robert John Carr (born 28 September 1947) is an Australian retired politician and journalist who served as the 39th Premier of New South Wales from 1995 to 2005, as the leader of the New South Wales Labor Party, New South Wales branch of the Australian Labor Party. He later entered federal politics as a New South Wales Australian Senate, senator, and served as Minister for Foreign Affairs (Australia), Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2013. Following his departure from politics, he served as the director of the Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) from 2014 to 2019 at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Jasper Knight
Jasper Knight (born 25 December 1978) is an Australian artist. He is the brother of writer and presenter Dominic Knight, and grandson of Sir H. M. Knight. Knight has been a finalist eight times in the Archibald Prize from 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2019 and 2022, with portraits were of Richard Gill, Bob Carr, his grandfather Sir Harold Knight, Bill Wright AM, Jason Phu, Adam Cullen and Abdul Abdullah respectively, aside from himself. Paul Kelly (Australian Musician)
Paul Maurice Kelly (born 13 January 1955) is an Australian rock music singer-songwriter and guitarist. He has performed solo, and has led numerous groups, including the Dots, the Coloured Girls, and the Messengers. He has worked with other artists and groups, including associated projects Professor Ratbaggy and Stardust Five. Peter Hudson (artist)
Peter John Hudson AM (born 19 February 1946) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and for the New Norfolk Football Club and Glenorchy Football Club in the Tasmanian Australian National Football League (TANFL). A legend in the Australian Football Hall of Fame, Hudson is considered one of the greatest full-forwards in the game's history. Ben Quilty
Ben Quilty (born 1973) is an Australian artist and social commentator, who has won a series of painting prizes: the 2014 Prudential Eye Award, 2011 Archibald Prize, and 2009 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize. He has been described as one of Australia's most famous living artists. Early life and education Quilty was born in Sydney in 1973, and grew up in Kenthurst in Sydney's north-west. Cherry Hood is an Australian artist, best known for her oversized paintings of children's faces. Biography Cherry Alexandra Hood was born in Sydney in 1950, and is the great granddaughter of Australian photographer, Sam Hood. Daniel Henderson (born 4 April 1991) is a motorcycle speedway and Ice speedway rider from Sweden.
