Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. Jeff Garlett
Jeffrey Garlett (born 3 August 1989) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Football Club and the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is of Indigenous descent. Background Garlett played his early football for Burracoppin, before playing for Swan Districts in the West Australian Football League in 2007. He lived with Anne and Maurice Embley (parents of many Swan Districts players, including 's Andrew Embley) and with Swans captain Shane Beros. Altogether, Garlett played 21 league matches for Swans between 2007 and 2008. Essendon Football Club
The Essendon Football Club, nicknamed the Bombers, is a professional Australian rules football club. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the game's premier competition. The club was formed by the McCracken family in their Ascot Vale home "Alisa", and while the exact date is unknown, it is generally accepted to have been in 1872. The club’s first recorded game took place on 7 June 1873 against a Carlton Second 20. From 1878 until 1896, the club played in the Victorian Football Association then joined seven other clubs in October 1896 to form the breakaway Victorian Football League (later changed to AFL in 1990). Anthony Corrie
Anthony Corrie (born 22 June 1984 in Darwin,) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who had a 56-game Australian Football League (AFL) career. Regarded as of the most talented under 18s in the country, he was named All-Australian and won the Harrison Medal at the Under 18 National Championships 2002, attracting the attention of AFL talent scouts. The Brisbane Lions recruited him in the 2002 AFL Draft from the Southern Districts Football Club. In 2004 he made his AFL debut with the Brisbane Lions against West Coast. Leigh Brown
Leigh Brown (born 23 February 1982) is a former Australian rules football player who played for Fremantle, North Melbourne and finally Collingwood in the Australian Football League. He is a Collingwood premiership player. After the 2011 Grand Final Brown retired and was announced as Melbourne's forward coach. He is renowned for his tackling ability as well as his Utility roles. Steele Sidebottom
Steele Sidebottom (born 2 January 1991) is a professional Australian rules football player currently playing for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League. Sidebottom was selected by Collingwood with selection 11 in the 2008 AFL Draft. Sidebottom had a 10-goal best-on-ground performance in the 2008 TAC Cup Grand Final. He is strong overhead and in one-on-one contests. An AIS/AFL Academy graduate and Vic Country representative in 2008, Sidebottom also was selected in the All-Australian team following the 2008 AFL Under 18 Championships. Brent Macaffer
Brent Macaffer (born 29 February 1988) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited in the 2006 AFL draft. Macaffer is one of a string of players to have been recruited by Collingwood from Gippsland. Despite his small stature, Macaffer led the TAC Cup U/18 goalkicking in 2006, and was named at full forward in the Team of the Year. Macaffer has good pace and can push up the ground to play in different positions. Dayne Beams
Dayne Beams (born 12 February 1990) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He also previously played for, and captained, the Brisbane Lions during the 2017 season, however he stepped down as captain during the 2018 season due to personal issues. Greg Bentley
Gregory Bentley (born 9 April 1987) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Port Adelaide Football Club and Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Recruited from Rosebud and the Dandenong Stingrays, he was placed on the Port Adelaide's rookie list but was upgraded to the senior list during 2006. Bentley played his first AFL game on 12 August 2006 against the in Darwin and kicked his first AFL goal with his first kick. He was allocated to Sturt in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) when not selected for Port Adelaide. Chris Johnson (born 25 January 1986) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League (AFL). The son of Melbourne Demons star Alan Johnson (Australian footballer), Alan Johnson, Johnson was recruited by the Demons under the father-son rule. Christopher Yarran (born 19 December 1990) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was also listed with the Richmond Football Club but did not play a senior match. Early life Yarran is an Indigenous Australian footballer who played his junior years in Western Australia.
