Abu Dhabi Combat Club
The ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship is an international submission wrestling, submission grappling competition, organised by the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC). ADCC is considered one of the most prestigious No-Gi submission grappling tournaments in the world, and is commonly referred to as ''The Olympics of Grappling''. The inaugural tournament was held in Abu Dhabi, UAE in 1998 and is held every two years. Host countries have included Brazil, China, Finland, Spain, the UK, and the US. Competitors can only participate after winning ADCC trials or by invitation. Rafael Mendes
Rafael Mendes Godoy (born 1989 in Rio Claro, São Paulo, Brazil) is a six-time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) world champion at the black belt level. Rafael, along with his brother Guilherme, are 3rd degree black belts under Ramon Lemos and founders of the academy Art of Jiu-Jitsu. Biography Rafael and his brother Guilherme started their jiu jitsu training through an older cousin named Thiago Mendes, who was a purple belt under Leonardo Santos. After only a few months of training, Thiago recognized great potential for the youngsters and took them to come and train with Ramon Lemos & Leonardo Santos. It was also around this time that the Mendes’s parents split, leaving both brothers without a fatherly figure. 2022 ADCC World Championship
The 2022 ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship was an international submission grappling tournament held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, from 17–18 September 2022. Background The ADCC World Championship is a submission grappling tournament held every two years, widely considered to be the most prestigious submission grappling tournament in the world. The 2022 edition of the ADCC world championships attracted some of the most high-profile sponsors that the tournament has ever seen, most notably The Joe Rogan Experience and ONE Championship. The 14th edition of the championship was originally scheduled to take place in September 2021 but was postponed to 2022 due to the international travel restrictions and the global lockdowns, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Orlando Sanchez (fighter)
Orlando Sanchez (February 5, 1982 – December 15, 2022) was an American submission grappler and mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. He was known as the "Cuban Tree Stump" and "the Big O". Competition career Sanchez earned his black belt in BJJ in four years. He won the ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship in 2015. He was undefeated in MMA. He is best known for competing at ADCC, where he earned a gold medal in 2015 and a silver medal in 2017. Vinicius "Vinny" de Magalhães (; born July 2, 1984) is a Brazilian mixed martial artist who competes in the Light heavyweight division. A professional competitor since 2006, he was a finalist in '' The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir'' and has fought five times within two stints with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Jean Jacques Machado
Jean Jacques Machado (born February 12, 1968) is a Brazilian Jiu jitsu practitioner. He is one of the five Machado brothers ( Carlos, Roger, Rigan and John). Machado is nephew of BJJ co-founder and Grandmaster Carlos Gracie, and learned the martial art from an early age. Machado is known for his grappling skills having won ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships in his weight division plus a runner up in the open division in 2001. Alexandre "Xande" Ribeiro (born January 20, 1981) is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, mixed martial artist and submission wrestler. He is a two-time World Black Belt Absolute (open weight) World Jiu-Jitsu Champion, five-time World Black Belt Heavy Weight Champion, and three-time World Black Belt Pro Division Champion. Baret Yoshida (born April 26, 1975) is an American mixed martial artist. He competed in the bantamweight and featherweight divisions. Biography Yoshida was born in Hawaii. José Mário Sperry (born 28 September 1966) is a Brazilian heavyweight mixed martial artist. His specialty is Brazilian jiu-jitsu, grappling and ground fighting. Saulo Mendonça Ribeiro Filho (born July 2, 1974) is a Brazilian submission grappler and former mixed martial artist. He is a 6th-degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) and brother of Xande Ribeiro.
