Crime films, in the broadest sense, is a film genre inspired by and analogous to the crime fiction literary genre. Films of this genre generally involve various aspects of crime and its detection. Stylistically, the genre may overlap and combine with many other genres, such as drama or gangster film, but also include comedy, and, in turn, is divided into many sub-genres, such as mystery, suspense or noir. Screenwriter and scholar Eric R. Williams identified crime film as one of eleven super-genres in his Screenwriters Taxonomy, claiming that all feature-length narrative films can be classified by these super-genres. ''BAC Nord'' (internationally titled ''The Stronghold'') is a 2021 French action thriller film co-written and directed by Cédric Jimenez, starring Gilles Lellouche, François Civil, Karim Leklou, Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Kenza Fortas. Mary Anning (21 May 1799 – 9 March 1847) was an English fossil collector, dealer, and palaeontologist who became known around the world for the discoveries she made in Jurassic marine fossil beds in the cliffs along the English Channel at Lyme Regis in the county of Dorset in Southwest England. Anning's findings contributed to changes in scientific thinking about prehistoric life and the history of the Earth. Anning searched for fossils in the area's Blue Lias and Charmouth Mudstone cliffs, particularly during the winter months when landslides exposed new fossils that had to be collected quickly before they were lost to the sea. Francis Lee (director)
Francis Lee (born 1969, TIFF interview from the end of 2017 where he states that he has turned 48.) is an English filmmaker who has written and directed the films '' God's Own Country'' (2017) and ''Ammonite'' (2020). Life and career Francis Lee grew up on his family's farm in Soyland, Calderdale, West Yorkshire. After finishing school, he studied acting at the Rose Bruford College and worked in the theatre afterwards. Lee first appeared on television in 1994 in ''Peak Practice'', which was followed by guest roles in television series like ''Midsomer Murders'', ''Heartbeat'' and ''Casualty''. In cinema, he had small roles in Mike Leigh's ''Topsy-Turvy'' (1999) and in Sandra Goldbacher's '' Me Without You'' (2001). Although working as a director today, he never trained at a film school. ''Ammonite'' is a 2020 romantic drama film written and directed by Francis Lee. The film is loosely inspired by the life of British palaeontologist Mary Anning, played by Kate Winslet.
