The Lion Building is an office building and location of the Embassy of Vietnam, Washington, D.C. The building is the former seat of the South Sudan, Republic of South Sudan to the United States. Dupont Circle is a historic roundabout park and Neighborhoods in Washington, D.C., neighborhood of Washington, D.C., located in Northwest (Washington, D.C.), Northwest D.C. The Dupont Circle neighborhood is bounded approximately by 16th Street NW to the east, 22nd Street NW to the west, M Street (Washington, D.C.), M Street NW to the south, and Florida Avenue (Washington, D.C.), Florida Avenue NW to the north. United States–Vietnam Relations
Formal relations between the United States and Vietnam were initiated in the nineteenth century under former American president Andrew Jackson, but relations soured after the United States refused to protect the Kingdom of Vietnam from a French invasion. During the Second World War, the U.S. covertly assisted the Viet Minh in fighting Japanese forces in French Indochina, though a formal alliance was not established. South Sudan–United States relations are the bilateral relations between the Republic of South Sudan and the United States of America. History Obama Administration, 2011–2017 The United States officially recognized South Sudan on 9 July 2011, the same day they declared independence. The United States Embassy in Juba, South Sudan, was first established on the same day with the former consulate that had been opened in 2005 in Juba being upgraded to the status of an embassy.
