Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras, known as Liga Hondubet for sponsorship reasons (''Honduran National Professional Football League'') is the highest division of domestic Association football, football in Honduras. The league season is divided into Apertura and Clausura, Opening (autumn) and Closing (spring). One team is relegated to the Honduran Liga Nacional de Ascenso, Liga de Ascenso (the team with fewest points in Opening and Closing) and one team is promoted from Honduran Liga Nacional de Ascenso, Liga de Ascenso. The top four clubs participate in play-offs to decide the champion. History In the 1930s, football experienced a surge in popularity in the country. The Honduras Football Federation (), known as FFH, is the official football governing body in Honduras and is in charge of the Honduras national team. FFH was founded in 1951 and joined FIFA the same year. It joined CONCACAF in 1961. Juticalpa () is the capital of Olancho Department in Honduras, with a population of 75,790 (2023 calculation), and the municipal seat of Juticalpa Municipality. Estadio Yankel Rosenthal is a multi-purpose use stadium in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Renovations were completed in 2009, and it will now be used primarily for football matches. It is the home stadium of San Pedro Sula-based Marathón, the second oldest team in the nation, founded November 25, 1925. The stadium has a capacity of 5,500 spectators. The project, which was scheduled to be finalized in its entirety by 2007, was rescheduled to 2009 due to financial issues.
