Liberal Party Of Australia (Tasmanian Division)
The Tasmanian Liberal Party, officially known as the Liberal Party of Australia (Tasmanian Division) and more simply as the Tasmanian Liberals, is the state division of the Liberal Party of Australia in Tasmania. The party currently governs in Tasmania as one of three Coalition affiliate governments above the state level. The party is part of the federal Liberal Party of Australia, currently in opposition. The Liberals currently govern through the Premiership of Jeremy Rockliff. History In 1904, Elliott Lewis established the National League, which changed its name to the Progressive League in 1907. While Lewis became Premier of the state in 1909 under this banner, the League itself shortly disappeared. Jeremy Page Rockliff Tasmanian House of Assembly, MP (born 5 February 1970) is an Australian politician currently serving as the 47th premier of Tasmania. Rockliff's Premiership of Jeremy Rockliff, premiership began in 2022 following the resignation of Peter Gutwein. He previously served as deputy premier of Tasmania, deputy premier from 2014 to 2022. Rockliff was raised in Sassafras, Tasmania, and was a farmer before entering politics. He was first elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly at the 2002 Tasmanian state election, 2002 state election, representing the division of Division of Braddon (state), Braddon. He was elected deputy leader of the Liberal Party in 2006 and served as deputy premier from 2014 to 2022 in the governments of Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein. The United Australia Party (UAP) was an Australian political party that was founded in 1931 and dissolved in 1945. Billy Hughes
William Morris Hughes (25 September 1862 – 28 October 1952) was an Australian politician who served as the seventh prime minister of Australia from 1915 to 1923. He led the nation during World War I, and his influence on national politics spanned several decades. He was a member of the federal parliament from the Federation of Australia in 1901 until his death in 1952, and is the only person to have served as a parliamentarian for more than 50 years. He represented six political parties during his career, leading five, outlasting four, and being expelled from three. Hughes was born in London to Welsh parents. Australian Liberal Union
The Liberal Party was a parliamentary party in Australian federal politics between 1909 and 1917. The party was founded under Alfred Deakin's leadership as a merger of the Protectionist Party and Anti-Socialist Party, an event known as the Fusion. The creation of the party marked the emergence of a two-party system, replacing the unstable multi-party system that arose after Federation in 1901. The first three federal elections produced hung parliaments, with the Protectionists, Free Traders, and Australian Labor Party (ALP) forming a series of minority governments. The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) is the peak body for the agricultural industry in the Australian state of Tasmania. It is a member of the National Farmers Federation. History The Tasmanian Farmers and Stockowners Association (TFSA) was established in 1908 by pastoralist Albert Mansell, "in response to union militancy and the detrimental impact of Federation" on local agriculture. It was renamed the Tasmanian Farmers, Stockowners and Orchardists Association (TFSOA) in 1919 and by 1930 reportedly had over 1,000 members across 19 branches. Tasmanian Liberal League
The Tasmanian Liberal League was a political party in the Australian state of Tasmania. It was founded in 1909 and merged into the Nationalist Party in 1917. During its existence it formed a two-party system in the Parliament of Tasmania with the Australian Labor Party (ALP). Although the league was created in the same year as the federal Liberal Party, there were no formal ties between the two. Background Tasmania was the last Australian state to develop formal political parties, both in terms of parliamentary parties and extra-parliamentary organisations. Premiership Of Jeremy Rockliff
The premiership of Jeremy Rockliff began on 8 April 2022, when he was sworn in as Premier of Tasmania by Governor Barbara Baker following the resignation of his predecessor, Peter Gutwein. Rockliff previously served as Deputy Premier of Tasmania, deputy premier under the Will Hodgman, Hodgman and Gutwein governments. On 5 June 2025, a motion of no confidence against him passed the parliament. He then announced that he would visit the Governor of Tasmania, governor Barbara Baker requesting a snap election, which was then called for 19 July 2025.
