Let's Get Lost (1988 Film)
''Let's Get Lost'' is a 1988 American documentary film about the turbulent life and career of jazz trumpeter Chet Baker written and directed by Bruce Weber. The title is derived from the song " Let's Get Lost" by Jimmy McHugh and Frank Loesser from the 1943 film '' Happy Go Lucky'', which Baker recorded for Pacific Records. Synopsis A group of Baker fans, ranging from ex-associates to ex-wives and children, talk about the man. Weber's film traces the musician's career from the 1950s, playing with jazz greats like Charlie Parker, Gerry Mulligan, and Russ Freeman, to the 1980s, when his heroin addiction and domestic indifference led to a relocation to Europe. By juxtaposing these two decades, Weber presents a sharp contrast between the younger, handsome Baker — the statuesque idol who resembled a mix of James Dean and Jack Kerouac — to what he became, “a seamy looking drugstore cowboy-''cum''-derelict”, as J. Hoberman put it in his ''Village Voice'' review. ''Let's Get L ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Let's Get Lost (album)
''Let's Get Lost'' is a 2001 studio album by Grammy winning jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard, recorded with four well-known female vocalists: Diana Krall, Jane Monheit, Dianne Reeves, and Cassandra Wilson. The album is a collection of Jimmy McHugh's songs. Recognition The instrumental track "Lost in a Fog" was nominated for a Grammy in 2001 for "Best Jazz Instrumental Solo," which showcases what Blanchard is admired for the most—his ability to meld together lush, emotionally evocative melodies. Critical reception Ben Ratlif of ''The New York Times'' stated "Terence Blanchard's new album, ''Let's Get Lost,'' just released by Sony Classics, is an example of jazz marketing at its most finely calibrated. It is a concept album, which is de rigueur if the plan is to sell more than few thousand copies. It is an album of musical-theater songs, which expands the base of jazz-record buyers. It is an underdog-championing album: the songs are by Jimmy McHugh, whom many consider the great ov ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

''From a Basement on the Hill'' is the sixth and final studio album by the American singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. The album was initially planned as a double album, and was incomplete at the time of Smith's death. Many of the songs Smith intended for the album remained unfinished, in some cases lacking only vocals. It was released on June 24, 2015, in Japan and on August 21, 2015, worldwide through 604, School Boy, and Interscope Records. Looking to transition from the bubblegum pop-oriented nature of her second studio album, '' Kiss'' (2012), Jepsen found inspiration in 1980s music and alternative styles. She enlisted a team of mainstream and indie collaborators, including Sia, Mattman & Robin, Dev Hynes, Ariel Rechtshaid, Rostam Batmanglij, Greg Kurstin, and Peter Svensson of the Cardigans, culminating in a largely synth-pop-centric effort. ''Emotion'' received generally favorable reviews from contemporary music critics, who praised its pop escapism, but were divided over its lyrical content. The album underperformed worldwide, debuting at number sixteen on the ''Billboard'' 200 with 16,153 units. However, in Jepsen's home country, it became her third top ...
