Alec Frederick Fraser-Brunner
Alec Frederick Fraser-Brunner (6 April 1906 – 17 Sept 1986) was a British ichthyologist. His career included work with the Colonial Office, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and as the curator of the Van Kleef Aquarium in Singapore and the aquarium at Edinburgh Zoo. Amongst his written works is ''Cussons Book of Tropical Fishes'', published as result of Manchester industrialist Alexander Tom Cussons' interest in tropical fish. Cussons had a keen interest in orchids. The hot-houses in which he grew them proved to be well-suited to tropical fish aquariums. Lanternfish
Lanternfish (or myctophids, from the Greek language, Greek μυκτήρ ''myktḗr'', "nose" and ''ophis'', "serpent") are small mesopelagic fish of the large family (biology), family Myctophidae. One of two families in the order Myctophiformes, the Myctophidae are represented by 246 species in 33 genus, genera, and are found in oceans worldwide. Lanternfishes are aptly named after their conspicuous use of bioluminescence. August Bernhard Brauer
August Bernhard Brauer (3 April 186310 September 1917) was a German zoologist. Brauer was born in Oldenburg. He studied natural sciences at the Universities of Bonn, Berlin and Freiburg, obtaining his doctorate in 1895 with a thesis on the ciliate- ''Bursaria truncatella'' titled ''Bursaria truncatella unter Berücksichtigung anderer Heterotrichen und der Vorticellinen''. In 1892 he received his habilitation at the University of Marburg, where he subsequently worked as a lecturer. In 1894–95 he conducted scientific studies in the Seychelles. Along with other scientists, he participated in the " 1898–99 German Deep-Sea Expedition" aboard the steamer ''Valdivia'' under the leadership of Carl Chun (1852–1914). In 1906 he was named director of the Berlin Zoological Museum (nowadays Berlin's Natural History Museum), and later in his career he attained the title of "full professor". George Brown Goode
George Brown Goode (February 13, 1851 – September 6, 1896), was an American ichthyologist and museum administrator. Early life and family George Brown Goode was born February 13, 1851, in New Albany, Indiana, to Francis Collier Goode and Sarah Woodruff Crane Goode. He spent his childhood in Cincinnati, Ohio and Amenia, New York. He married Sarah Ford Judd on November 29, 1877. She was the daughter of Orange Judd, a prominent agricultural writer. Together, they had four children: Margaret Judd, Kenneth Mackarness, Francis Collier, and Philip Burwell. He graduated from Wesleyan University and studied at Harvard University. In addition to his scientific publications, Goode wrote Virginia Cousins: A Study of the Ancestry and Posterity of John Goode of Whitby'where he traced his ancestry back to John Goode, a 17th-century colonist from Whitby. Tarleton Hoffman Bean (October 8, 1846 – December 28, 1916) was an American ichthyologist. Biography and education Tarleton Hoffman Bean was born to George Bean and Mary Smith Bean in Bainbridge, Pennsylvania, on October 8, 1846. He attended State Normal School at nearby Millersport, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1866. He received an M.D. degree from Columbian University, now George Washington University, Washington, DC, 1876. In 1883, he was awarded an M.S. degree from the Indiana University on the basis of his professional accomplishments, although he did not attend classes there. He married Laurette H. van Hook, daughter of John Welsh VanHook, a local Washington businessman, in 1878 in Washington, DC.
